Hi Jay-bo, had a visit to Benson a few weeks ago and spoke to a few TO's. Used to be a school teacher myself so prefer to have a role with an educational/training setting. I was considering changing it myself at one point but when i contacted AFCO a corporal there told me that I'd have to start the application procedure again from the very start!! (didn't want to do this as I'd been waiting months) Did you have to do that? I wasn't certain about what the Cpl said but just took their word for it. I was considering changing to/adding Eng O.
Same here, I've got an education degree and my current role involves a lot of hands on training although I haven't taught. I wanted a role in the RAF that would allow me to carry on with the hands on element of the training and development and it seems that as a TO your a bit detatched from that. I was told that the role is very much what you make of it though and it was evident there are some very pro-active TO's that make the job enjoyable for themselves. It was clear to me though that some of the job is being civilianised and this was limiting the control that I'd have in the role. No I didn't have to start again, I changed just before my filter interview though so hadn't really started the process proper.
HI Jay-bo. I've spoken to 2 Trg O's and had 1 station visit. It's the right choice for me as I've spent the best part of the last 10 years in education/training and I've enjoyed it so far.
The only thing I'm uncertian about is where the future of the branch lies? It's hard to pin down one definite answer from the Trg O's I've spoken to but then that's because they have conflitcing views. I've heard/read a few opinions suggesting the possible demise of the branch or perhaps the transfer of some of the work to civilian roles and thus a reduction in Trg O's. Just have to wait and see.
There are always going to be elements of the role that they aren't able to civilianise though, so I think there'll always be a training branch in one form or another, but as you said it was the fact that I couldn't get a positive answer regarding the future of the branch from anyone that I spoke to that I moved it to 2nd choice, the elements of the job that'd enjoy most just weren't there any more.
I've got mine on the 25th November-am new to this site but if anyone else has there OASC then I wonder if you are as scared as me!? Off for a pre regiment officers course next week though
my date is on 30th november...this is gonna be the second attempt for me...it is scary and intimidating but just remember that they are looking for officer potential...be yourself and you will be fine
Just done my OASC last week, got through all 4 days just waiting for my letter now. If any of you guys want to read the diary I kept while I was down there feel free to read. (its the attachement below) There have been changes to the order of the course content but as far as I am aware no changes to the actual course content itself. Top tips I'd give out would be what you have heard already:
>Be yourself >Enjoy yourself >Socialise >Put 100% effort into every activity you do down there
My filter must have been June ish, then it was July for my TLC (teamwork/leadership/communication study day at the AFCO) and professional intervew/presentation.
I believe from memory my filter was early july, however there was some problem with the computer system at Cranwell and it took about three weeks after they received my case before I was given a date for OASC. I'm not complaining too much though as it's given me time to get fitter than I was!
Hi, I have my OASC for the 30th November and a Aircrew presentation (atleast thats what i think it is) on the 27th and 28th is anyone else doing this and any directions where i could get as much help for my OASC as possible would be much appreciated, Thanks Jamie
hey, im goin on 30 nov too...it will be my second crack at oasc...i found on the internet something called the 'oasc prep product'...its over 100 pages long and has everything you need to know about oasc and hundreds of practice questions for the aptitude tests and speed/distance/time calculations...also it has loads of practice planning exercises...it costs about a tener or something but totally worth it...i downloaded it and printed it, its helped me so much, definately something to go for to help with prep
