You're right, though I will point out that in that usage I'd agree with you. I was just talking about the specific way I interpreted it as being used here.
And now we've cleared up the semantics, what about my earlier point that footballers aren't as skilled as a lot of other sports players? Deafening silence on that one.
On the whole maybe they aren't, but where does it say that football has to be a technical sport? And what other sports have players with more honed skills than football?

Besides, there are plenty of players you could use as examples of having 'skill' on a par with players of other sports. Ronaldo, Robben, Ronaldinho, these sorts of players have superb skills.
