Hey I noticed no one had replied to you, I'm a first year in Aberdare Hall
It was definitely not my first choice because I was clearing but it's actually a nice place to live once you get used to it. I'm in the Garden Wing by the way haha! To answer your questions:
I don't know much about Old hall, the rooms are apparently gorgeous and are kind of pentagon shaped? Not your usual rectangle student room. The people I know in Old Hall don't seem to have any issues with the bathrooms, and each bathroom has multiple showers and toilets. What I will say about Old Hall is that since the flats are so large it's not as easy to socialise, however I have met plenty of girls who love it there. I don't have pictures but my room in Garden Wing is great, I mean it's a typical student room so nothing fancy but the rooms in Aberdare Hall are WAY bigger than the rooms in other residences such as Talybont. There's a giant desk and loads of storage space, it's a really nice room.
I don't know much about library wing either I'm afraid, however I am very happy that I'm in garden wing instead of the other buildings. Having a smaller flat is really good and also I prefer being self-catered. Since Garden Wing is separated from the main building, I think that it's a bit more independent than the other sections which I like. Self-catered students are in the Garden Wing
The flats are cleaned every weekday morning, trust my flat is wayyy cleaner than other residences haha! To be honest I was really worried about the shared bathroom before I came here but once you adapt and get a routine it's really ok, and the showers are huge
As far as I know no rooms have been refurbished lately, but they're all decent to be honest. Erm some people think that in the old hall and library wing its a bit stricter but in garden wing there are no rules, I hardly ever see staff it's very relaxed and I've come back at 3am pretty often aha! It's fine sharing the bathroom, it's a bit busy at like 7am/8am but I've never had to wait for the shower or toilet. It can just get a busy around the mirror.
My only bad experience is with the residences team, they're reluctant to fix issues in the kitchen (our hob needed to be replaced), but I think that's an issue in all of the residences.
I like Aberdare Hall a lot more than I thought I would, it's quiet so if you want to party all the time Talybont's probably better but you can get sleep here and the rooms are a lot bigger, and it's awesome being so close to everything.
Hope this helped
