For the record I just want to say that I don't believe racism to be the preserve of white people (that would be a racist notion in itself!). Racism can manifest itself in the words and actions of anyone.

However, the rather tedious accusation of 'political correctness' seems most often to be made so as to be critical of 'minorities' being given 'special treatment' or posits how 'ordinary' (i.e. 'white') people are being 'forced' to pussyfoot around these 'minorities'. It's clear from such langauge that, at least in the UK, those who are using the term 'political correctness' are more likely to be white than non-white.

If people lament that they can't make sexist jokes in the office anymore, or can't put up their softporn calendars at the petrol station or garage anymore - all because of the 'PC brigade' - then all they are doing is trying to legitimate their sexism. This is why the concept of 'political correctness' should be understood as a politically loaded concept itself, and is not some 'common sense' response to the 'looney left' or whoever else is blamed for challenging words and actions which foster inappropriate values and power relationships in society.

I tried to rep this, but was informed that i was a cheeky monkey for trying to rep you again. TSR suddenly got a sense of humour?
