Japanese studies

Hello, I am considering taking Japanese or Chinese Studies at Newcastle University. Enrolling in 2017.
However, I am a Japanese speaker, not native but very fluent. I am half Japanese, therefore have been speaking it all my life, as well as English.
I was wondering if the courses start learning Japanese from beginner level or if it is at intermediate level? Also, would you advise a person who already speaks Japanese to take the course.

Thank you

Ellie
