I think the reason why they only introduced 72 new Pokemon in gen 6 is because the number of Mega evolutions brought the number beyond 100.

Just checking, there are 48 Mega evolutions, which brings the number up to 120.

I see. As there are surely another Mega evolutions, do you think it will almost the same number of new pokemons?

Nah. There will likely be a visible majority of new Pokemon rather than Megas, if they make more that is.

Just thought of something:

When they made XY they would've had to make 3D models of all the previous 649 Pokemon from scratch, and Mega Evolutions take same the same length of time to create as normal Pokemon. So that could've been the reason why they only made around 100 Pokemon, 72 actually new.

However for SunMoon they might use the old models, and just recolour or refine them a bit. So that would mean that they would save quite a bit of time for creating new Pokemon.

And it was pretty much confirmed in the trailer that 3D models will be used.

Since the development period is roughly the same length as that of XY's, I think we might get 150-60 new Pokemon, with 20 maximum being Mega Evolutions (if they keep the concept).

• More differences between the Sun and Moon versions.

I think its gonna be based in Hawai
