Yes mechanics would be helpful, you'll to be doing solid mechanics modules. Although it's no great loss if you aren't able to do any. M1 and M2 are pretty basic and should give you a good start.

Broadly speaking first year Mech Eng contains:

Statics (Structures)
Kinematics (Study of motion)
Dynamics (Study of the forces and energies involved in motion)
Materials
Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics
Engineering Maths
Engineering Design (problem specification, solution selection, conceptual design etc.)
Computing (Programming and CAD)
Management/Business Studies

Aerospace Engineering is pretty much Mech Eng biased towards the Fluids and Aerodynamics side of things. It's a specialist field within mechanical engineering not a separate field. You can't really study, say, a turbine in a jet engine without some knowledge of the mechanics of rotating machinery for example :smile:

this is so weird! havent looked at this site for 4 weeks and when i finally do theres messages about me...sigh..im so damn popular!
ermm mechanical engineering is gr8! passed all my exams so far (1 more result to go) yet still had an amazing first year.
its about cars and engines and hydraulics and hands on experiments and maths!
i need more specific questions cos otherwise i tend to blabber about nothing! ok well may check this again sumtime if u want me to asnwer ne stuff properly!

I'm avoiding the shame of going home and admitting failure to my parents so im at a friends house (she refuses to use MSN for some reason :rolleyes:

). I should be on when I get home in a day or so though. I expect you to tell me all the best bars and clubs before I get there though, godda plan ahead if I'm going to get smashed every night for 2 years. :wink:

why only 2 years? im at edin for 4 more!!
will def tell u places to go during freshers week because i know me and my m8s cud have had a much better time if we'd actually known the gud places and not followed too many ppl.
but yeh ur gonna get in to edin ( i have faith ) and then pollock halls im guessin u applied to? im confused as to what u said. bt yeh me and a m8 of mine are gettin paid to work on the beginnin sat and sun b4 the monday freshers week starts and we're just showin ppl around a house and pissin about basically! think we even get free grub which is a bonus. bt yeh ur bound to c me cos ill prob b wearin a distinctive jumper ill tell u about l8r! (dont want weirdos on here stalkin me, cos u know,im sure they wud!)

I figure I the course last for 4 years so I can drink my body weight for the first 2 years and then turn it on for the last 2 years and hopefully get a degree out of it. :wink:

I'm (hopefully) going to be doing Comp Sci so I will be spending most of my time in the King's Building (it better have a good bar :wink:

). I hope I'm not one of the 2 people your talking about (I want to be loved by everyone). :biggrin:

I'm quite intrigued about the jumper though!!! :confused:
