Feminists complain when they see attractive women in adverts but when you hear about women being raped and denied basic rights in 3rd world countries nothing is done about it. Feminism is not needed in 1st world countries at all. Besides, Feminists always talk about women being "objectified" in adverts, well what about the men in adverts.I thought feminism was about equal rights.

They downplay mass rape in Germany and complain someone replies to an article they have written about how people want threaten to rape them with I wouldn't rape you.

Most areas.

For example football. Women are banned from being in the same team as men.

Men are scientifically physically stronger than women, in general - that doesn't mean they are any better, of course, but it makes logical sense that they would have different football teams, don't you think? Personally I don't think that having different football teams is treating women as "second-class citizens". It's not like women are banned from playing football or something
i'm from asia and there's heaps of inequality in so many countries. for example, india where there's a risk for women to be splashed with acid for walking on the streets at night or saying no to a date, proposal, etc. the patriarchy is very strong there. obviously not with every single family but it's till engrained. another example, it's not typical for women to play sports or drive in saudi arabia. so of course feminism is needed. why should women be limited based on their sex

also, i saw some comments about how feminism is very radical in the sense that some think women are better than men. yes that is the case but only with some. those are the radical feminist. but myself? i fight for women's rights on the grounds of equality of the sexes (the definition of equality). and just because i support women's rights it doesn't mean i don't support other people's rights.

^^ this.
I can't believe the focus of this feminism thread is football in the first world. That isn't a feminist priority
I am a woman, bow down and worship me you male bastards!
Gosh we have middle class white girls complaining about not enough women in sport or whatever irrelevant nit picking they do. Life isn't fair to both men and women, get over yourself and stop localising an issue to one gender. Prioritise real global issues like forced child brides in poorer countries. REAL ISSUES not bull you pluck from nowhere to fulfil your cheap political agenda.
Jesus Christ. Women in the first world do NOT need feminism. This has already been discussed. The pay gap is literally a myth. Feminism is needed only in Arabic/African countries where women are ACTUALLY seen as inferior to the superior male, where there is ZERO social mobility for a woman and they're often subject to things such as arranged marriages.
>people will actually disagree with me on this

Obviously third world issues are more important, but feminism isn't completely irrelevant in the first world. We can use feminism to empower women to go into certain areas of work where they are under represented and I think more women need to be in government, every government in the world is predominantly male
Also one thing we haven't talked about is the fact that USA, supposedly the most privileged country, has some weird views on abortion. Republicans standing for president usually want to ban abortion or make cuts to Planned Parenthood. I feel like this is why Hilary can make her campaign somewhat about feminism, because it is relevant in US for this reason. Obviously, we don't have that problem in UK of our abortion laws being threatened if a new prime minister comes in, but they do.. Some states make it very difficult already for women to have an abortion. Also, they don't have free healthcare so abortions wouldn't be free - I think all of this is a first world feminist issue
Also, just because women are near equal in the first world, doesn't mean we shouldn't call ourselves feminists in respect of everything the movement has done and to speak out for feminist issues in the third world because those women can't
feminists want the same kind of miserable "equality" that socialists want - not equality in its objective and neutral meaning, but equality that is regardless of principles like deservedness, merit, fairness, etc. if we're all equal from birth, then all we require for pure equality that is merited is merely equal rights. nothing more. if men outperform women, or if women outperform men, then that's meaningless. if we develop a culture where women are "objectified", or a culture where men are expendable, then that's insignificant to equality in the truest sense.

if you feel that it is unfair for people to get given value or utility on the basis of their existence (socialism), then you'll happily accept modern day (radical) feminism, because you're not interested in human individual freedom or responsibility - all you will care about is how we end up. if one group does better, you will want to see them do worse simply for the sake of those they outcompete. that's not about equality of rights, that's about equality of everybody living under a line. a line that says "you're not allowed to be better, even if you deserve to be better from your own hard work, individually or collectively".

if equality is what women want then why is the political movement referred to as 'feminism'? LOL they couldn't even get the name right. It should be called equalism or something.
yessssssss OP 💕💕 got nothing to say but bumping so people'll see it

Because women are the ones that fought for equal rights? because women are still the most disadvantaged gender when looking at the world? you can't ignore the fact that it's better to be a man in most countries in the world
Women always whingeing :blah: Man up. You have equal rights in a free society and are more privileged than the working class in third world non-western countries.

Women fought for equal rights? It's not like the majority are men who are fighting in conflict and wars for equal rights and our freedom now and in the past.

Most disadvantaged gender?
Do you ignore the fact that women around the world are treated with respects and take care off more than men, do you ignore the services and shelter provided for you, if you ever get broke or homeless. While men don't have shelter or services provided since their men (they should have a job and money - i'm not even going to get into the suicide rates in jobs).

People here are arguing that their treated like "second class citizens" but are females the one that are protected and taken in shelter in conflict? Men have to just survive,

blah blah

Oh okay, so a football pitch constitutes "most areas"?

What about retail outlets?

workplaces?

schools?

public ground?

if we aren't second class citizens then why can you go to pretty much any country in the world and show your skin, a basic right, but I would probably end up stoned to death if I did that in every country in the world.
I do recognise there are problems with mental health and the fact men are expected to fight war etc but I could literally give you a thousand examples of which men have more rights than women in today's world

That's cause of the culture of the country, some cultures and countries are conservative.
Show some skin? You can argue that females in developing Muslim countries can't show their skin, body and such. But do you see men in those developing countries also showing skin? No their wearing a Thawb that covers their whole body.
Culture that are conservative simply disprove of people who show their skin whether its a men or female.

I disagree.. in one country in particular they have police specifically to tell women to dress more modestly, take off their make up etc
Also in ISIS women are not allowed to show their hair or face but men are, it's not just a equal conservative thing
Are you trying to argue that men & women in Muslim countries are equal?
What about virginity? I was watching a documentary yesterday that said in Turkey women are often killed if they do not bleed when they first have sex with their husband.
Feminist issues..

"they have police specifically to tell women to dress more modestly, take off their make up etc" proves conservative culture or country.

" ISIS women are not allowed to show their hair or face but men are, it's not just a equal conservative thing" - an extreme religion which is a minority and disapproved by the society and the Muslim community itself

"Are you trying to argue that men & women in Muslim countries are equal?" No ofc their not equal, its unfair I know but Feminism won't fix that. Provide me a list of feminism achievements pls. Is feminism even a legitimate authority? No

"What about virginity? I was watching a documentary yesterday that said in Turkey women are often killed if they do not bleed when they first have sex with their husband." again more culture. Feminism can't fix culture issues. Feminism is a divided movement which conservative, white, black, social, radical feminist. e.g. How can a movement so divided represent equality.
