Really confused about UCL

Im really confused about whether i should apply to ucl because i went to the open day and absoluteky loved the place - it was amazing and i could really visualise myself studying there. However i am bit worried because for gcse i only got 1a* 7A and 2B and i am predicted aab at a level so i dont know whether this is enough. also i am really really apprehensive about having to take the bmat and to be hnest i really cant be bothered to relearn all of my maths and physics again (i didnt do them at a level). im worried im going to get a really rubbish bmat score especially given that i am not the brightest tool in the box and i have to work really really hard for a levels so far. im also worried about the competition and i just cant choose about whether to apply to ucl or leeds so can anyone offer any advice or experiences about applying to ucl?

I'm confused as well- is it a college or a university ? University College ? what the hell does that mean ?

To answer your question- medicine is a very competitive area at any university and UCL is no exception. Leave any decision till after results day- then you can look at your grades and asses your chances. GCSEs whilst important do not mean everything and good AS results will eclipse them.
Well for starters it's still the Royal Free and University College Medical School for a short while at least.
History of our name and other bits.

If you don't apply to us, you'll never get the chance to be here, so, if you love us like you say, you need to apply. Yes the BMAT is a hassle, but do well an it's an automatic interview, the chance to sell yourself, so it is worth the effort.
Your grades also exceed the minimum requirements, so you will be considered at the same level as all other candidates in that respect.

We're better than Leeds. Fact. Apply.

I'm trying to think of a way this could come back to haunt you, but can't.

Maybe the fact Leeds student's aren't gonna graduate with debt streaming from every bodily orifice? Possibly?

But when you weigh up debt against spending 5 years in Yorkshire, you soon realise you'd rather pay not to be there.

Another question i have about the UCL admissions process is that when thye receive every applicant's predicted grades, do they rank them in order of the highest or are people with AAB on the same level as those wiith AAB? Do AS levels play a big part in the admissions process aswell?

I think there's definitely some regret in that statement that your not enjoying the fine Yorkshire weather right now

No.

Do AS levels play a big part in the admissions process aswell?

yes (though not as big as BMAT or personal statement (the biggest part by far).

And the rain, and that godawful accent, and scallies, and the lack of Oxford Street on your doorstep...

Admittedly we occasionally suffer from rain and where I live I need an armed police escort to get around without being shot at but it's all character building. :yep: And the accent is superb. And even as a Londoner, you have to admit, Oxford Street's got tacky, I was disappointed when I went to London last year

Rain can be dealt with by being Northern and oblivious. You haven't heard me talk in real life.... Scallies are native to Liverpool and Manchester. Oxford Street is the apex of nightmares. And there's no gritstone in London.

listen to this. UCL is fantastic and about as competitive as it gets for medicine and tbh it doesnt sound like you have the commitment necessary to get in. its totally worth the work imo.

But it's just so miserable.
When I moved from Edinburgh to Manchester there was noticeable improvement in the weather; moving from Manchester to London is like a different country in terms of the relative dryness.

That's true. I went to college in Manchester and I've frequently insisted its not raining in London, despite evidence to the contrary. You know, like ducks in the street....
To the OP with regards to your GCSE I didnt even get an A* in mine only As and Bsc and it didnt hold me back. If you really want to study at UCL, I say go for it try your best at the BMAT if it mean re-learning bits of GCSE maths and physics it may pay off in the end. UCL is competative but if you dont apply you will always think 'what if'.
