Hiya, there are just 18 of us on DPCP this year but yes I think there are 20-something places available, a few people withdrew before the course started this year

Aah alright, thanks for the reply. Btw do you have any application tips? I mean it's a super competitive course. Or is there anything you notice to be a pattern between the 18 of you? (for example, if all of you have a full year of relevant work experience etc.)

No worries!
As for application tips, have a look through this thread - I think UCL’s suggestions were pasted in here at some point and they’re pretty helpful
And honestly no there’s not really a specific common theme / type of experience between us, which is actually really nice! We all have some experience with young people, but the type and duration of work or volunteering we’ve done is very varied so don’t worry if you think some of your experiences are a little unconventional or not directly related!
E.g. some were teachers for years, others just did a few months of online counselling or helped out at holiday camps over summer. It’s not so much about what exactly you’ve done but how you can show that it’s relevant to the course and that you’ve learned something from it! Hope that helps

Thank you, this was helpful. Definitely you have to be able to show what you've actually gained from those experiences no matter how little or big they are. Would you say in personal statements there should be more of an academic focus or an experience focus? They didn't specify but both can be used in the questions they ask, so which would you say is more important to focus on?

That’s a good question - they’re definitely both important and both need to be discussed in your statement, but since your degree transcript / award level itself already speaks for your academic ability, I’d say focus slightly more on your experiences in the statement. When you’re applying somewhere like UCL, academic excellence is sort of taken for granted (although it does still needed to be demonstrated), so it’s your experience, and what you gained from it, that can set you apart!

Hey, current DPCP student here!
I applied in November 2020 but didn't receive an invitation to interview until February 2021, and the interview itself was only in March. UCL is notoriously slow at responding to applications but you should be hearing from them relatively soon now!
As for the course itself, it's very intense and they definitely throw you in at the deep end, but I find the content really interesting and it's challenging in a good / rewarding way!

Hope that helps

Thank you so much!!
I have applied to colleges in usa as well while there the courses are master in clinics physcology or counselling..
Here in uk they seem to be more specialized.
Do you feel this particular course only prepares you only for working with children?
Or adults also..
Thank you for all your help..

You’re welcome!
This course is focused on developmental psychology so yes most of the things we learn about are related to child and adolescent mental health, but there are a lot of elements that overlap with and are applicable to other things, including adult psychology. Taking this course probably won’t limit you if you want to specialise more in adult psychology in the future, but yes most of the content here is focused on young people.

I've just gotten an invitation for an interview! I hope everyone else gets a reply back from them soon too
Does anyone know what to expect from the interview? I only know from the email that it's 15-20 mins long, but I have no idea what kind of questions they'll ask and no clue how to prepare for it :/

Congratulations!! 🥳
So in my interview they asked me to describe a significant experience I'd had with a child / young person and what I gained from this, what needs to be considered when involving minors in research (though they may ask you a different question), and a challenging experience I'd had and how I overcame it. They also asked about how I'd adapt to living in London, but I think they were really just asking if I needed financial aid. The interview was online, there were two interviewers, and the whole thing lasted about 5-10 minutes (but sounds like yours may be longer?). Hope this helps!
