I bought the cheapest Boxter in the UK largely for a laugh AMA

As a few of you know, my beloved SLK ran into some serious issues last month and I ended up scrapping it under a government energy scheme for a strangely generous amount.

With that plus what I've scrimped over the year, earned and saved quitting smoking I had a few nice 'dream' options... but most would have cleaned me right out, so in one of those impulsive moments, I went, viewed and bought at the time* the cheapest running real Porsche in the UK, a 99 986 2.5.

Body is... ok :P

Proper 90s basic 1st gen dash, not even a colour Porsche badge, but oddly warming, the same Sony USB/Bluetooth stereo my last 02 car had been upgraded too

I'll be spending the next few rain drenched days finding out what exactly I've bought, I've already broken the roof... which given I just owned 2 convertibles, I have little excuse for :colonhash:

I'll come back and update this with how this really stupid idea execution goes, but if you like cars feel free to ask how it's going or why I would do such a thing. Alternatively, If you hate cars and/or me, also watch as it will likely cost me many money and embarrass me greatly.

* - cheapest MOT'd non smashed one I saw on the day.

I'll be keeping a close eye on the local newspapers in your area.
Are you planning to invest some money in changing the colour to shiny gold or bright pink and decorating with a few hundred swarovski crystals for added bling?

No, It's already a fancy Porsche Zenith Blue, which I had never heard of till today, but will pretend I was born with. It already has big wheels and a 'bodykit' :colonhash: so I'll likely leave it as it is for a while, at least until I'm happy it's running good.
How much did it cost?
Given that the blue already fits with TSR's colour scheme, will you be daubing the site's logo on the side to go along with that?

£3000 in the end, they had started close to 4 and slowly fell over a few months as I watched till they had to give it a new years MOT. (It was an impulsive buy but I knew it was on the market) much a I'd love to claim I haggled I paid their end asking price after a good look and seeing they'd undersold it's service history IMO, so I more hovered like a Vulture
hope you can find some petrol to put in it

Saw the thread title and thought some new account was pimping one of those dreadful YouTube motoring lads channels

Needless to say, you’ve been advanced to legend status. They’re meant to be a nice drive. They sorted one out on Wheeler Dealers once and it might be worth seeking out for some pointers.

Yeah it's pretty much one of those, but I don't care to hold a camera or share

I've not honestly gave it any real welly yet, everythings too wet/busy here and as my first stick petrol & V6 I'm treating it v gingerly for now.

I wouldn't have though so, but my 60 years old neighbour was out in her dressing gown staring at it the other day when I came out, so I guess it's there if I want it

So as said, I have already managed to mangle the roof (now jammed open ), just seems to be utter bad luck as it worked ok when bought. I've had a looky loo and It's defo broken some plastic bits in there so I can only guess I've been a bit rough or managed to do things in the wrong order. Youtubing and reading guides on how to get the damn thing unlocked again now

3 days later with nearly every wrench/socket/bar I own and no further ahead, damn my stranglers hands :colonhash:

So no sensible choice but to seek outside help, my reg garage instantly said 'No' which is....not a good sign  So I've booked it into a pretty expensive looking specialist place for next week.

Much as I hate to say it, It looks like 1-0 to the People that don't like me VS The ones that like cars for now...

Ongoing Money Pit - £20 - useless wrenches

Ongoing Money Pit - £20 - useless wrenches

Unused OEM plastic joint thingies - £27.99
2 hours labour at specialist place to unjam and disconnect the damn roof - £132

Off to a great start for month 1, I can't lie it's epic to drive and the roar it makes is something special, enough to even dislodge the memory of my loved SLK supercharger a bit

Tomorrow I'll get to give it damn good clean which I haven't yet, normally near 1st thing I do.
