Accommodation in York

I'm an international postgraduate student coming to York St John in September. Someone suggested I look for accommodation in Leeds( it's cheaper to live in Leeds than York) and commute to York for studies. Is it true that accommodation is cheaper in Leeds than York? And do you think it's a good advice to be commuting to York from Leeds daily?.

I am a current student at York St John.

Whilst accommodation maybe cheaper in Leeds you will have to factor in any travel costs such as the train/ bus fare. I have a few friends who commute in from Leeds and it seems to work for them.

Alternatively a way to bring costs down would be to look for private housing in York sharing with friends/ other students. I pay roughly £540 a month bills included. That is for a double room in a shared house with four others.
