The Student Room Group

Scam

Two years ago in January I lost £240 on gumtree from a scam for a nintendo switch. He emailed me a bill statement with proof of address so I sent the money via bank transfer. It’s been ages but it came back into my head I guess. Is there anything I can do?

I know I shouldn’t have fell for it but I was barely 18, a student and thought it was legit as he gave proof of address via a real bill statement with his details. So from my logic I thought it would be fine. Evidently, I was naive and lost it.

But given I have his address from two years ago, is there anything I can do?

Bank couldn’t help as it was a private bank it received.
it is best to let it go. the criminal will get caught sooner or later. don't let it ruin your life.

Thank you. It’s sometimes better hearing it from a stranger. I thought I had moved on ages ago but something similar was spoken about today so it played on my mind
I am guessing the address isn’t legit. Otherwise the scammer would have been beaten senseless by this point.
