Lancaster University 2023 Applicant thread

Hi, so I applied here last year for deferred entry and got a lowered offer that was either 'conditional unconditional' (unconditional if my first choice) or changed to unconditional on Results Day. I initially put it down as my Insurance before realising too late that I wanted to make it my Firm, and didn't make my Firm offer that I no longer wanted and got an unconditional offer to study here by default. Ask me anything!!!

Hi @Bluebells60!

In first year you’ll do 3 modules at once. I.e. in my first week I was taught PHYS101 (mechanics and special relativity), differentiation and vectors. This equates to about 8-12 hours of lectures, 3 hours lab work and 3 hours workshops per week.
Physics is a contact hour heavy subject so you’ll likely be on campus everyday.

Hope that helps!

What’s it like on the interview day? Been invited to one but not sure what to expect?
I’ve just received an invitation to the Lancaster interview day. Unfortunately I can’t make it there in person so I have to do a digital version. However, many of the activities seen impossible if you’re not actually there. So I wanted to find out what the online interview day will consist of, and any extra advice would be much appreciated.

Wasn’t a choice for online one. Did you need to ask for online?
Hi I’m thinking of applying to Lancaster for software engineering, can someone confirm if they hold interviews or entry tests so I can be prepared and it doesn’t come as a surprise 😭 I emailed but got no response

It was an option but it wasn’t very obvious. When you book, it asks you how you will be travelling there, and it has a digital option on the drop down.

That's great to hear! I just received an invite to interview for physics with astrophysics and am quite nervous!!

Yaaay thats amazing. Please dont be nervous, she had an interview in 2019 and they made her feel so very welcome. During the day we parked on the south west car park on campus (it was free for interview day) and then there was a complimentary bus from the car park to the underpass. From there she entered the physics department. There was a presentation on physics, the university itself, plus a tour and also a buffet lunch. The parents waited in the foyet whilst the students got called for interview. They asked about her PS, and a physics question or two. The interview was very friendly  Afterwards, there was an optional tour of the campus if you wanted it. Wishing you the best of luck
i'm also booked for the 16th for physics!

Daughters finishing off her personal statement and and once thats been proof read and refined a bit more she will be applying on UCAS and will be putting Lancaster on her list of unis for zoology. So hopefully by mid to end November it will be done, so will probably be around Mid Jan when she finds out. I know from the eldest thats at Lancaster now, that term breaks for 16th December and opens back up again 16th of Jan, so I know she wont hear in between those times.

Any interviews for computer science/SWE??

Hi!

No, neither the Software Engineering or Computer Science degrees require interviews at Lancaster.

Been invited to interview for physics too. What date are you going?

Hi @yellowdrummer123 and Anon!

That's great to hear that you've both been invited to interviews for physics already! I've just finished my undergraduate physics degree here and I'm now doing a PhD so I can heartily recommend the Lancaster Physics department.

Try not to be too nervous. I was also very nervous during my interview day but, it was a good day and it's as much a chance for you to get a feel for the uni and department as it is for us to meet you! It was after my interview day that I decided that I wanted to put Lancaster as my first choice. The day is a really nice way to sample what the department is about and meet some of the friendly lecturers and students.

If you have any questions about physics at Lancaster feel free to ask!

Hope that helps!
