Hi - my son is starting medical school in Bristol in September - does atone know if he needs to take smart clothes for clinical placements? I can’t find anything recent about dress code for med students. Thanks

No idea about Bristol specifics, but If he has clinical placements in first year, then yes, he would be expected to dress appropriately. Usually shirt / smart-ish trousers (not jeans) / shoes that aren’t trainers.

At Lancaster we did need smart clothes occasionally during first year, even though we hadn't started placement yet. The medical school put on an introductory lecture where they talked us through the dress code and then gave us a couple of weeks to sort something out. We're just required to wear smart clothes with short sleeves/sleeves that can be rolled up and wipable shoes that are closed over the foot, but I've heard that this varies slightly between medical schools. Hope this helps!
