Medicine or Biomedicine

Hello, guys I need some advice.
I want to get into medicine , so I applied for medicine entry in 2024, but I got rejected from all of my 4 choices. My fifth choice was biomedicine at Lancaster University, which I got the offer for. Do you recommend me to take a gap year and reapply for medicine for 2025 entry or just go for biomed and after graduating , reapply for medicine. If there are any other options please let me know as well. Thanks

Do you want to study biomedicine? What do you intend to do with that qualification? I am writing a thread for those people who didn't get into medical school this cycle. Check it out.

I dont mind studying biomedicine. If I take the qualification, I would reapply as a graduate applicant to medicine. I wrote my question to seek advise on what is the best thing to do. Do I go for biomedicine or take a gap year and reapply for medicine again? or is there a third option ?

If your intention is to train as a doctor and work as a doctor, why would you want the cost and time expense of 3 years of undergraduate degree followed by 4 years of an intensely competitive and even more challenging spell of Graduate medicine?

I'd take a gap year and apply for undergraduate medicine if it was me. I biomedicine really has put the hook in you, then you could study it during an intercalatory year.

Maybe try doing an allied health course instead, GEM is verrryy competitive and ive heard biomed is quite unemployable so having something to fall back on that basically guarentees u a job (e.g. radiography, paramedic science, physiotherapy, occupational therapy etc) and still allows u to go onto GEM is quite usefull.

Never do another degree with the sole intention of applying for GEM as it takes longer, costs more and has more competition.
Take a gap year, look at improving your application and reapply.
If you do a different degree, pick something you would be happy doing long term as you are statistically less likely to get into GEM than standard entry.
The only caveat to this is if you cannot get AAA, even with resits, in which case, GEM is probably the only option (unless you have WP flags)
