Hi, I'm turning 17 this year and I've always been an independent learner to the extent that if I go to school I'll end up wasting my time and getting bad results. I'd like to know if there are any free online/self-study A level providers. Thanks

Yeah, there are no free A Level study providers (e.g. UpLearn, distance learning courses). There are free resources for A Level subjects though.
Instead of throwing the kitchen sink at you, it makes more sense if you list the subjects that you do and we would be able to provide relevant sources for you to look at.
There are some exam practice and revision guides that aren't particularly expensive if interested.
If you want to look through online courses for A Levels, I can give pointers about those too.
Sciences endorsements and coursework add to the cost of the exam papers taken. Other considerations, accommodation and travel.
Corrected: If doing a piece of coursework for a Arts or Social Science subject you would need to find an exam centre willing to mark it. You will need to sit the exams with them they will probably allocate you 10 hrs supervised to complete it in. Cambridge International two modular exams are probably less expensive if you are doing the sciences. In addition their A level languages courses are non-coursework.
If you are going to do it yourself not casting any dispersion or anything but you will be required to read a lot of information and additionally not be phased by it. I did some research and someonelse has already done a list.

And the weirdos. These subjects are only available from some or one exam board, but they can be taken as exam-only. Schools are less likely to be entering their own candidates for these exams, so you might be charged invigilation fees (and be all alone in a massive echoing exam hall) if they accept you at all.

Thanks for all your input! So I won't be able to sit an A level exam for free?
Unless it's through your college and you are doing your A Levels the first time round, no.
It's not complicated to sign up to do your A Level exams as a private candidate, but it is a complete pain. As far as I know, universities don't take too kindly to resits unless you have a good reason or there is a huge improvement in grades (you might want to double check on this).
