I messed up uni and not sure what to do any ideas?

I messed up uni and today i got terminated even though i started attending, bit of a back story I didn’t really attend regularly so i do understand it is my fault and it is the 2nd time i am repeating doing the foundation year due to some personal problems in my life, I’m not sure if SFE would fund me another year or if a I can change course I have 10 days to send my appeal form so, any ideas what to do?
I would assume the obvious next action for you is to send in your appeal and explain why you were not attending uni. For example, if it was for mental health reasons, go into detail about how it affected you and your ability to attend, and include any evidence e.g. doctors notes, mental health groups you attended etc). Also explain how you are committed to change and what you are doing to move forward and ensure you will attend from now on. If possible, ask for a member of your uni support team to help you complete the form.

Then hopefully after your appeal you’ll be granted a third chance to continue university.

I would also urge you to consider all the possible reasons you have not been attending in the past, so you can correct them for the future. Do you enjoy your university and your course?
if you want to go through the appeal then do it - but consider, are you going to take responsibility? Are you going to start attending, and power through, make sure to put effort into your course?

if you’re unsure or said no to any one the questions, i advice you don’t even try to appeal

if you answered yes to all, you need to build a case of why they’re wrong. try to get some of these:

1 - medical letters which either contain diagnosis of mental health/learning difficulty/other condition exhibits might impact your learning
2 - call your gp and ask them to write you a letter explaining you’re been of ill health, been suffering from a depressive episode or something of this nature
3 - prepare to fight for yourself in the appeal panel, be passionate and show that you genuinely will keep going with your course and you won’t stop attending. explain why you didn’t attend, and explain it has been difficult, you didn’t have anyone to talk to about it, but you’re ready to accept responsibility for your learning and start attending.

as for the problems in your life, talk to a counsellor or your uni therapist or talk to your gp
sfe allows you to fund an extra year of studies if you fail it as a result of mental illness/disability/other good reason

Yeah I am going to send the appeal today. I contacted my GP already and I'll be getting a call today, and I'll ask them for the letter.
I also take these pills with side affect of depression, which to be fair with my history of depression I don't think they are doing me any favours, however I have completed all of my 2nd assignments for all modules which I did pass, and I was getting ready to get started on the 3rd assignments and finish the year. However this doesn't mean I will stop working on my last assignments I'll still do them while I wait for the outcome to come out.

I mean i was literally in university yesterday so it's a bit crazy than again I do have only myself to blame and my brain, yeah I know the reasons I have not in the past, but I have put effort in doing assignments just need to fix my attendance. I mean the university is good, and my course is alright. Honestly I could have picked better things but yeah I do enjoy it for the most part.

Thank you for your responce.

That sounds great. It’s really clear that you’re holding yourself accountable for where you may have missed the mark, and you’ve been committed to improving things and finishing your degree.

Personal issues, mental health and side effects from medication is a LOT to deal with, so honestly kudos to you for being able to balance all that and still make headway with your degree. It’s great that you somewhat enjoy your course/uni. I don’t think anyone 100% loves every lecture and module of their degree anyway 😂 but it’s so worth it when you finally graduate. Especially because most degrees open up a huge range of opportunities so you’ll definitely be able to find an aspect or a field you enjoy post graduation.

I wish you the best! Keep going!

I am taking responsibility I have talked with the deputy dean about the whole situation even though all she advised me to do is put the appeal through, and I did ask her if I can attend the lectures to help myself do my last assignments, so when the appeal goes trough I can just submit them.

However she said I am not allowed to, which isn't really going to stop me from doing the assignments I have downloaded all available lectures that are posted online and I'll be going through them while and doing my assignments I'm waiting for the appeal.

I just had a phone call with my GP I have a history of depression, as I stated in another reply, I am taking medication which has a side effect of depression, so it's not making my case good for me but I am using this which is a legitimate reason I am not faking it but I'll be getting the letter either later today or tomorrow at the latest, but I will make sure I pass this year I am not thinking about next year as of yet but I will fight till the last second to pass this year and I'll take it from there.

I have been looking for a therapist and I have an appointment on Thursday next week, so I am seeking help it's just weird that the university did this at the end of the year with essentially 2 weeks to go excluding the easter holiday.

Anyways, thank you for your response and ideas for how I can save my education,
Hopefully you have a great day.

sfe allows you to fund an extra year of studies if you fail it as a result of mental illness/disability/other good reason

Wait so all I'd have to submit a Compelling personal reasons (CPR) and explain to them for example that my medication gave me depression which caused me to fail my year? I mean I'll try going that route but only as a last resort I am not planning on giving up on this year yet, I'll see what I can do this year.

Thank you for your response.

yes that’s the case - but you should do all in your power to keep your studies. you need some evidence for your claims, so if you’ve genuinely been missing classes because of depression or other reason you can provide evidence for, do so. you need evidence for them to approve it.

Yeah I am actually genuinely not been going for this because of depression, I actually got in trouble at work as well, I was on and off there probably missed a month and just disappeared because of how I was feeling, my GP would state the side effects of the medication and I told her that was the reason, however I'm not going to jump the gun for a CPR i'll fight for the appeal, get my assignments done, even though I don't know if I would need them I'll still do them. But yeah I think a GP letter that's formal and explaining the meds would be a good enough evidence, least I hope so.

Also I just had one more question, I just got my GP letter and i'm ready to submit it, would you recommend I write a word letter explaining what my medication does and that I am doing my assignments despite being terminated, my GP already explained that i was on a specialist treatment which caused my low moods and my attendance problems?

Thank you.
I'm in the same situation, I did attend, but didn't manage to do my assignments. I failed foundation year, re-took it again, and am now in year 1, and got terminated. The first year, I wasn't serious. This time around, I genuinely had family and personal issues. I have just sent off my appeal now. Nervous to say the very least. Best of luck. It's bizzare how they terminated us right before exams as well.

I’m sorry to hear you’re in the same boat as me its not a nice boar, i was looking dor a yacht but here we are haha, i mean all jokes aside ive been having problem’s since i started uni which is annoying. I got kicked out of home been dealing with depression, and such so it is really annoying this year was the pills that messed me up. Fingers crossed your appeal comes out good, but like you said it is very strange we get tossed out right before the year ends, why not earlier in the year, its like if the appeal doesnt come in time you’re screwed and have to re do again might be for more money tbh, Uni’s are greedy after all

Hey! I came back to this after some time but my appeal was accepted ! I’m still a student at the university, they’re just deciding whether I’ll repeat the year or go into the next one! What happened with yours?

Well, my appeal went through it was successful and I went to CPR with Student Finance to which they have agreed to fund me so it's all good just waiting on the enrollment email which should be here by the end of the week, and i'm back into uni. Glad to hear yours was successful and you get to continue/resume your studies.
