Yepp!!
If you’re dead set on fine art/painting then you might want to look into City and Guilds art school foundation diploma. Their class sizes and studio spaces are much better than UAL offer - especially if you want to specialise in fine art https://www.cityandguildsartschool.ac.uk/foundation/

If your aim is Slade then city and guilds will likely offer you more support in getting your portfolio prepared to maximise your chances. It’s worth booking onto open day and graduate show events for the slade too - it’s a tiny course compared to most art degrees so talking to staff and students and seeing the studios in person once you’re in London will help maximise your chances too.

I did not apply to City and Guilds foundation :frown: so I am mostly deciding between foundation at UAL or camberwell.

Is it true that foundation at Camberwell is very crowded though? And there’s a lack of resources?

They're still accepting applications if you want another option. Because it's expensive for home students they have a much less rigid application system - unlike UAL they don't have 1,000+ students on foundation! C&G only has ~250 students across Foundation, BA and MA and only about 70 on Foundation.

You can accept a course on UCAS and as many foundation diploma courses as you like - as long as you let universities know if you decide you'll be going somewhere else then the most you might lose is any non-refundable deposit.

C&G is one of the only Foundation Diplomas I'm aware of that still guarantee your own dedicated studio space throughout the week with no requirement to share or pack work away/take it home

Have you spoken to Slade to as about details of where their accepted applicants studied?

Hi @UniApplicant792

I would suggest you reach out to our student ambassadors and ask them about their experiences - some of them may have done the Camberwell FAD, or at least be at Camberwell now and can give you more insight. You can reach them here https://www.arts.ac.uk/study-at-ual/askastudent

Best wishes,
