The Student Room Group

Setting vs Streaming

It probably is a stupid question but in sociology, can you describe setting and streaming as easily to me as possible. I thought it was the same thing.
hi! setting is where students are put into ability-based groups for *individual subjects*, this means that they could be in top set maths but also middle set English. streaming is where students are put into a top/middle/bottom stream for *every subject* based on their performance in one or a few subjects (eg. performing well in maths means that a student is put into the top stream which means top class for every subject). hope this helps!!
