Any other good/free programs like Sutton trust or UNIQ

Does anyone know any programs/summer school that can help me with my Pearson statement and help me in general.
I did three summer schools last year (summer of year 12- however I’m resisting now and so I’m going to attempt to do more this year) at Edge Hill University, University of Suffolk, and Leeds Trinity University. Look into their summer schools- they were amazing

What degree are you applying for?
Depends on subjects, the sort of Unis you are aiming at, and what widening particiaption criteria you fulfil.
Most Unis will have their own summer schools and.or widening opportunity schemes, you just need to look on the Uni's own website - google the name of the Uni and 'widening participation' or 'outreach' or 'summer school' :
Just a few examples :
Reading - https://www.reading.ac.uk/essentials/Careers/Advice-and-development/Mentoring/Reading-scholars-programme
Bath - https://www.bath.ac.uk/campaigns/outreach-programmes/
Edinburgh - https://www.ed.ac.uk/c/summer-school
Royal Holloway - https://www.royalholloway.ac.uk/studying-here/schools-and-colleges/events-on-campus/residentials/
Lancaster - https://www.lancaster.ac.uk/widening-participation/access/
Durham - https://www.durham.ac.uk/visit-us/schools/access-engagement/step/

Hiya, I applied for summer schools last year and some of the residential ones I applied for were:
-Surrey
-Brighton
-Lancaster
-Edge Hill
-Teesside
-SOAS
-RAU
-Exeter
-Cambridge
I wasn't able to attend all of them due to the overlap (and the expected rejection from cambridge) but let me know if you have questions about surrey, lancaster, brighton, Exeter, Edge hill or RAU
Hi there!

The university of Surrey offer a range of free summer schools to prospective students. We can offer you an insight into university life and you'll have access to current lecturers and students who can provide support with the personal statement. Here is a link to our summer school programmes: https://www.surrey.ac.uk/schools-colleges/sixth-form-colleges/residential-summer-schools

If you have any questions about life at Surrey or studying here, please do get in touch!

Hi @Rainyzack

Lancaster have a few Widening Participation programmes with residential components. You can find out more about them here: https://www.lancaster.ac.uk/widening-participation/access/

Lancaster Access Programme isn’t currently open for applications but you can register your interest on this website and they’ll get in contact when they open. https://www.lancaster.ac.uk/schools-and-colleges/lap/

According to the website, the Realising Opportunities programme will reopen for applications in Autumn 2023 for students entering Year 12/first year of college.

Hope that helps!

My daughter did Edgehill for Psychology and she did not have to live in a low acorn/polar area either. She loved the uni. She is applying for zoology, but psychology was one of her alevels and its really did help give her a taste of uni life.
Eldest did Oxford UNIQ for physics, but back then the acorn/polar was at the right level and she got in.

No matter which one you go to, it all looks good on your PS.
Hi again!

During our summer schools, you will have the chance to live in student accommodation on campus with others taking part in the summer school. You will spend the five days getting to know other students, having taster classes, and getting used to the uni social life. Here's a link to the summer school for prospective computing and engineering students https://www.surrey.ac.uk/events/20230703-faculty-engineering-and-physical-sciences-residential-summer-school

Hi,
I'm unsure when the Lancaster applications open (if they haven't already) but maybe contacting the outreach team is a good idea, I think last year it was open by now but I can't really remember, sorry I couldn't be more of assistance. But in terms of what Lancaster was like, it was a really good summer school and the academic sessions were to a really high standard. The timetable was also really good because there was also plenty of down time and time to socialise and meet new people, as well as exploring the campus. The surrey summer school was also amazing, slightly less down time but I think the acceptance rate is slightly higher (I'm unsure though) and they did take us bowling which was really nice. If you have any other questions pls lmk

Hi there
In terms of Mechanical Engineering, there are various online training courses and webinars with IMechE which you can attend to add to your statement. This shows an extra interest and that you are going above and beyond to work for your degree.
If you considered Chemical Engineering, IChemE have recently opened their Sustainability Hub which currently offers 4 free online courses. Some of these apply to all disciplines so may be suitable for mechanical too!
Hope this helps

Hi! I know I'm a little late to this thread, but I'm considering applying for Lancaster and was wondering you have any tips for applying? Thank you so much!

Hi!

Lancaster University offers a range of subject specific summer schools! I attended the Physics summer school when I was in Year 12, which was a really great experience to try out many lectures and labs for different areas of Physics!

Here is a link for more information about the Lancaster University Summer Schools: https://www.lancaster.ac.uk/events/lancaster-university-year-12-residential-summer-school/

I hope this helps! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!
