House sitting - mindah0me...

Bit of a crazy one, spoke to someone in the pub and they said that their son was a professional house sitter. I've looked at the website in the title and there is a fair few available properties relatively local to me that would be suitable with available dates. Just wondering how you actually get started on this, I have no children or pets so could go and sit somewhere at the drop of a hat. I've not joined the website yet as there is a joining fee and don't know enough about it to join yet. Most properties have a link to contact owner and I'm guessing offer your services. Just wondering what the going rate was per night or week. Most places include some kind of pet supervision etc in the requirements. Is it easy to get started with no experience / references? Have driving licences/ID/no criminal convictions. Any advice would be grateful cheers
