Grades below uni clearing offer

So let’s say hypothetically, a middle grade Uni like Reading, Sussex etc advertise Politics at BBC on clearing day and your results are CCC. Is it worth calling?

Appreciate its probably all dependent on the uni and the popularity of the course, but interested to know if anyone has got in this way!
If BBC is their standard offer in the main cycle - yes
If BBC are their clearing specific entry requirements - probably not unless you have excess time on your hands or are willing to compromise on your course choice

If you get CCC - retake your A levels.

If its advertised in clearing as BBC then probably not. But dont discount those unis now, as you never know what they advertise for. For example Reading BBB Zoology last year and this year for standard entrance grades, but the clearing for last year for zoology was CCD, thats several grades lower. I know this due to daughter checking our Reading as one of her options last August (is now her first pick).
So definitely keep these unis in mind, but also look at other universities as well. Have them on a list of order of preference so come results day you can go through them and check out the clearing options if advertised on website. If not advertised (as some unis dont) then give the admissions a call.
Fwiw - most universities don’t actually publish what grades they’re looking for in clearing. Those that do are a minority. For most you’re supposed to look at their standard requirements and make a judgement on how close you are.
