Career

Hi.

I’ve just finished my a levels but I literally have no idea what I want to do in university. I did bio Chem and maths so my options in stem are kind of open. Idk if I want to do medicine or dentistry but there’s pros and cons with both. And the ucat is so long. I really want to go to Manchester but they have a high ucat threshold. I know I can do it but it’s so hard to find motivation. On top of that idk if I would rather do pharmacy or dental hygiene and therapy or an engineering degree.

I see myself helping people in a caring environment but idk if the long hours are for me. I want to socialise and have a life out of work. But the thought of dentistry doesn’t appeal to me either.

What do I do? And I have very little work experience on top of that.

You mentioned wanting to do pharmacy, and i think a pretty solid way to figure out if its for you is to do work experience in one, I only took bio but was able to get one over the summer, and it made me decide that pharmacy wasnt for me, but thats cus i didnt enjoy interacting with people. Also most pharmacies have pretty regular hours, the one i worked at was always closed at 6 on the dot and gave a decent lunch, so that might be something to concider in regards to having a social life outside of work.
