Hi,

Career fairs are usually a great opportunity to see and speak to different career opportunities available to you. They usually involve different stalls supporting different careers and you usually have the opportunity to speak to people who have already followed that career path. It's a great way of hearing first-hand experience of any careers you may interested in pursuing and the people at the career fairs will be best equipped to inform you how best to enter the career be that through university or apprenticeship pathways. If it's a career fair for people already studying a degree then the career fair may involve job opportunities and potentially on-the-day interviews for current roles within each organisation. Be sure to ask loads of questions and gain as much information as you can.

I hope this is of some assistance!

Hiya!

I’m Pip, a third year TV production student at BU. We have our careers fairs on the ground floor of our SU building usually, and it’s a bunch of companies/potential employers with stalls, ready to chat to you about working with them.

If your university is holding one, it might be worth looking at who’s attending if you can, to flag some of the people you want to chat to - saves getting caught up in a 20 minute conversation by accident!

Make sure to get contact details for people too! (Email/LinkedIn etc)

Best,
Pip

Hi there!

It’s great to see that you show an interest in attending career fairs! It’s a fantastic way to kickstart your own career aspirations/potential before graduating from university.

A career fair is an event where employers, recruiters, and representatives from various companies and organisations gather to connect with students who are seeking internships, jobs, or information about potential career paths. Companies set up booths or tables where their representatives showcase their organisation, industry, and available job or internship opportunities. Students can visit these booths to learn more about the company, ask questions, and may also submit their CV.

They provide a platform for students to network with professionals in their fields of interest. It's a great opportunity to make connections, ask for advice, and gain insights into specific industries or career paths. Especially if you’re planning to be self-employed!

Additionally, some career fairs may offer workshops or panel discussions on topics like CV writing, interview skills, professional networking, or career development. These sessions aim to provide students with practical advice and tips for their job search. And to note, attending a career fair usually requires dressing professionally. Students are expected to make a positive impression by demonstrating good communication skills, professionalism, and a genuine interest in the companies they engage with.

It's important to come prepared with questions, research about the attending companies beforehand, this way you’ll be getting the most of your attendance to the event 🙂

Wishing you all the best,
Ellie

Hi there,

Are there any careers that you're specifically interested in? Careers fairs are generally events with stools for different potential employers. This provides a place to learn about different careers, network and learn more about your future options. However, the benefit of visiting a career fair, in my experience, depends on what careers you're interested in.

All the best,

Hi there,

Great question! If you are wanting to explore your career options, these fairs are a great way for you to discover the wide range of job opportunities available, including:

Graduate schemes and jobs

Work placements

Part-time work

Volunteering opportunities

Christmas and seasonal jobs

Teaching roles

UCLan Postgraduate opportunities

Here at UCLan, our career fairs are held on the top floor of our Student Centre where there are a wide variety of stalls set up for students to meet and speak with real local, national and international employers. Like others have mentioned make sure you ask lots of questions to get as much information as possible from the companies that interest you and take some contact details from the employers that stand out to you.

Do let me know if you have any questions. 😊

People who work in different career sectors come and you can talk to them about what their job is like, what grades they needed, payment etc. There might be ccolleges and unis as well depending on what year you're in. Its a good oppurtunity and you should go if you can.

Hi there

Career fairs are a really good opportunity to learn about different businesses. There will tend to be several companies that come from off-campus to explain what their businesses are like. Many of them will have job opportunities or work experiences available to University students or fresh graduates.

I would recommend attending them to give yourself a better insight into the area of practice that you may enter in the future. It is a really good opportunity to learn about the business, the personal experiences/ career paths of the employees, and to find out about any work experience opportunities they offer. (They will generally tell you how to apply, and you could always ask any follow up questions you have, for example: how many people do they hire, what qualities are important to them, what makes an application stand out to them.)

hope this helps.
