Gap year travelling tips and advice - dos and donts

So, I joined TSR to ask about travelling in a gap year, so here I am with my questions!
1. what are the pros and cons of doing something organised by a company like a scheme in India or Africa, rather than trying to organise something directly with projects or communities there?
2. what would be a good place to travel for relevance to a career in an NGO?
3. any tips from any seasoned gap year travellers on what not to do?

Thanks 😊

Have you thought about using something like Workaway where you can either work for families, schools, animal welfare or directly for an NGO all over the world?
