Is York St John worth it?

I've been trying to transfer from Solent University doing Film and TV to Newcastle University to Film and Media with it ultimately not working out. York St John was another university I was considering doing Film Studies and Media there since the course interests me and I like the city. However the uni is ranked pretty low. Is it worth transferring from Solent to York St John

Hi there!

While I am not a film and media student, I am a third year student at York St John studying education and have only good things to say about this university. Obviously you will have things which you prioritise from your university experience, so you would have to decide that for yourself. However, from my experience, the university is beautiful; it is small but warm and communal. There are many of societies which cover a range of interests such as sports, gaming, dance, subject interests, drama, music and tv. These are just to name a few. I have seen inside one of the TV studios and was surprised by the professional appearance and equipment it held in our new state of the art Creative Centre. One of the reasons I love the university so much is because of the position of the building in relation to the city. It is right in the centre of York, so for someone who cannot drive, this is so convenient and such a nice way to spend my free time. I also think it is cool how only students from York St John graduate in the Minster. We have a lovely library for studying, with three floors for you to pick between a communal study space or a silent one.

You can find out more about the course online here: https://www.yorksj.ac.uk/courses/undergraduate/joint-honours/film-studies-and-media-ba-hons/ . According to the website, it was ranked number 1 by students in the UK for Learning Resources in Media, Journalism and Communications. Apparently, we also have a section of the library dedicated to a film archive where you can access archive footage for research.

I do not know anything about Solent university, but I think that this is a decision where you should consider what you are looking for in a university and a course and what you seek from it. Weigh up the factors, and perhaps attend a campus tour for York St John to provide you with more information if you were still interested. Good luck with your studies and your search!

Hi there!

Thank you for reaching out. Although I do not know much about this course or the process to attend it, I can try give you some directions.

Have you tried contacting either of these emails [email protected] or [email protected] for support?

Hopefully your agent responds! Good luck

Rachel
