Can a school force me to be in even if I don't have a lesson

So my sixthform center (held at a high school) is forcing students to be here during their free periods even if we havent got anything in the afternoon, only exeption is that if we have no lessons at all we dont need to come in. Is this allowed?

yeah it's quite common at sixth forms according to my friends who went to one.... I was at a sixth form college and they were so much more flexible with frees

Probably - if you've checked in at the school that day they are presumably liable for your safety as a pupil so will have a say in whether you are allowed back out during school times or not, and it's far simpler to say no. My school was the same, a free period meant you didn't have a class, it didn't mean you could leave and do whatever.
