Where would you go to study Osteopathy?

Really interested in Osteopathy but trying to decide where to study.

I been getting treatment from an osteopath and its got me really interested. She went to somewhere called the University College of Osteopathy and said it was the oldest place in the UK for osteopaths. But I looked at the website and it sounds like it is getting taken over so not sure I want instability. Plus London and they don't help with accommodation and I don't know anyone there.

So now I am thinking somewhere else like ESO but that seems tiny and remote but then I found out Swansea have a course. I quite like the idea of being near the sea but wondering if it's the best one? Anyone got any views?

You have to be registered with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) to practise as an osteopath in the UK. I recommend you read through the GOsC website for information on training and its recommended course list (of which the Swansea course is one):

https://www.osteopathy.org.uk/training-and-registering/becoming-an-osteopath/training-courses/

There is also some info on the NHS website re the role, pay and opportunities:

@swanseajack1 do you have any insight in to the Swansea course?

I have no idea about the course. What I do know is Swansea is very highly thought of for its Healthcare and Medical school. It might be a good idea to contact the university who will be able to give more detail. A telephone call would be ideal or attending the next open day where all your questions can be answered.

Thanks for that that's really helpful. I didn't know about GOsC.

Thanks I think I am going to try to arrange a telephone call and then see about an open day. Its good to know it is highly thought of.

I did a year of osteopathy but had to drop from the course for pursuing different endeavor. University College of osteopathy indeed does not have accommodation but there was an Indian person from Admissions helped me (rather informally) for finding a good accommodation. Now that it is being taken over, I would perhaps be skeptical as in my time I have noticed many students struggled in their first year. Probably they compromise quality for bums on seat.
