i saw my ucas reference the other day but my stats were pretty mid bc I'm at a competitive school (top third for one subject and top quarter for the other)
how much do top unis care about references?

Not much. Unis mostly just skim references to spot anything 'exceptional' or for any 'mitigating circumstances'.
It certainly wont be a deal breaker either way. Grades and your Personal Statement are always going to be far more important.

Depends on the Uni ur applying to, if the uni is highly competetive + it doesn't interview, then your teacher's reference is very important, as thats the only way they can get to know more about you outside your personal statement.
