Socialising on my own?

I was wondering what was the best way to go about it? I'd like to go out for drinks and get to know people but since I am on my own and don't have friends in the area I was worried it would be a bit weird and dangerous as a young woman going out drinking on her own.. But there's a lack of society events for the ones I joined and I don't really know what to do in the mean time. :frown:

Go out with your flatmates.

Also join many societies, then you drop some in second year. Societies is for making friends.

Why do you need to go out for formal drinks to get to know people? You can talk to them anytime, invite them out separately from the society or organise social events for societies that you've joined?
