GCSE Further Mathematics Study Group 2023-2024

Figured no one's started one yet so might as well!

I take CAIE iGCSE additional maths but it's basically the same (apparently a little harder?) than GCSE Further Maths. It's SO challenging bc we only started like 2 months ago and the exams are so soon (I'm in y11) but it's so so fun! I can never go back to just studying single maths if you know what I mean haha. pure maths >>>

It's really quite hard to find anything to study with for fm - does anyone have any resources they'd like to share? I'll put what I've got as a reply to this thread x

@Pwca please add this to the list of study groups! Thank you!

I get you! I'm really regretting taking art 😭 but it is what it is. What's your favourite topic in fm so far?

Disclaimer: none of these resources are mine, unless otherwise stated. I've only compiled them together here.
BLOG - https://www.flyingcoloursmaths.co.uk this is really helpful from a maths tutor (he's really funny as well). I genuinely enjoy reading his posts.

PDF - https://www.physicsandmathstutor.com you can find a ton of practise questions organised by topic - go to a level maths and do the pure maths topics because they don't have further maths gcse (to my knowledge)

BLOG - https://www.flyingcoloursmaths.co.uk/core-1-graphs-all-you-need-to-know/ guide to drawing simple graphs!

PDF - https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1_7chQZxtZSqVdKRnwIwejAc4k0kr_F8T edexcel a level revision notes (a lot of pure maths notes here)

PDF - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1YoQ1fOBRPKy8pj_rNSrnJbWGA34ItlgW/view formulas from pure 1 maths (I think it might be CAIE, but I'm not sure). Really useful in general, though.

PDF - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1aH3WYFXz0NMnBYBSX_QFSyLj-jjcUrWB/view level pure 1 & 3 maths notes. this is REALLY good. it has worked examples and practice questions, too!

BLOG - https://news.vbest.edu.my/common-mistakes-made-in-igcse-additional-mathematics-examination common mistakes made in igcse add maths and how to fix them!

YT - https://www.youtube.com/@StarfishMaths - I LOVE her videos - she explains everything extremely clearly and goes through worked examples which you can do alongside her. She does have a more advanced (A Levels) focus, but that should be really helpful as it's more similar to what add maths is.

YT - https://www.youtube.com/@TheGCSEMathsTutor Lifesaver much? I seriously highly suggest these videos. He has hour-long videos that cover a ton of content. I like to pop these on in the background when I do work, too.

YT - ]https://www.youtube.com/@Mathsaurus] : Absolute legend. His videos are amazing.

BLOG - https://corbettmaths.com/more/further-maths : This has videos, example questions and solutions. It's brilliant because it was made for further maths so you shouldn't worry about having studied topics you didn't cover in school.

BLOG - QEHS: I think this was made for a specific school? But it popped up in my feed and some of the resources are available for guest users (I don't think you can make an account). This page in particular is really good https://www.qehs.net/moodle2/mod/folder/view.php?id=14418

BLOG - https://www.drfrostmaths.com/# : AMAZING like 10/10 GOD TIER. This https://www.drfrostmaths.com/courses.php?coid=9887 in particular is for add maths, but there is SO MUCH more if you need it!

Hope this helps anyone who take fm/add maths

edit so the formatting is odd here too but basically copy the main bits of the url and paste it into your search engine and it should be fine.

Hii, I’m a predicted A* student at IGCSE (Cambridge) maths and I recently moved from the uk this September where I was predicted a 9 at GCSE (OCR) maths. Maths is my strong suit and I really enjoy it. Do u think if I start working for further maths now it would be possible to get an A* this may/ June. I’ve had a look at the questions but I really can’t tell how hard it would be to catch up. Please give me your honest opinion no matter how harsh it is. Or would u recommend for me to do it in the Oct/Nov session. Also, do u take tuitions for it or do u do it in school? My school doesn’t offer it but if u know any good tuitions could u send me their contact details?
(Sorry the text is a bit long am really desperate))

Hi, I am in year 11 as well. How can you do further maths in year 11?
I might choose further maths as an A level so can you please help me as someone told me that you have to do a mock exam or test before doing further maths a level and I don't know about it if there will be extra topics which might be harder in test or mock exam. If you know please tell me when does that test or mock exam take place?

Hi, don't know if you've made up your mind on this yet but I did AQA Level 2 further maths and got a grade 9. The school didn't offer tuition so I taught myself from the textbook and videos. I started the content after finishing GCSE maths (May year 10) and had learnt it all by the summer so if you work at it, starting now should be achievable. Will obviously depend on skill/work put in but a lot of it is just harder GCSE stuff.

It will depend from college to college so you are best asking first but most colleges that I spoke to don't assume a knowledge of GCSE further maths and will just teach from basics

I actually taught Further Maths to my peers all of who got 9s so if anyone has any questions don't hesitate to ask 😀

Thank you so much for replying, so did u do further maths in the Oct/ Nov session or May/June? And also do if I decide to do fm in Oct/Nov session should I start now or after I finish with my May/ June exams to focus on my first exams first? Also, could u send me the names of the channels for the videos. (I am so impressed by your results)
omg I've just started teaching myself further maths content now(the harder stuff at least, like matrices and differentiation) and I'm so stressed as GCSES are in about 2-3 months. send help 😢 i really don't think I'm going to get above a 7, if I'm being realistic as i only get 7s in normal maths..

Same here- I'm taking Further Maths AQA. Predicted an 8- but realistically speaking, probably won't get more than a 6 :')
