Difference between BTEC Higher National and Extended

Hi, what’s the difference between BTEC Higher National courses and BTEC Extended courses?

I was planning on taking an online BTEC Higher National Certificate course (Level 4 on the RQF) thinking it would count towards university entry, but it seems like most universities only talk about BTEC Extended Diploma in terms of entry requirements. Is there any difference between the higher national courses and extended courses?

The Extended diploma is a 2 year Level 3 course and is equivalent (in UCAS points) to 3 A levels and can be used for University applications. The HNC is a Level 4 course and does not give you any UCAS points. It is normally taken after A levels/ BTEC either as a stand alone course or a precursor to HND. Completion of the HND allows you to join Year 2 of some University courses.
