Finance Careers/ Degrees

I’m currently studying a levels and have applied for apprenticeships and degrees… I’m looking to work in finance, more specifically banking and m&a, for a career in these divsions would a degree be necessary even if I have a level 7 degree qualification and a professional qualification or is a degree necessary? (the degree I would get would be from a uni such as Surrey or reading in Finance)

If anyone who works in finance sees this I would appreciate your opinion on this as I’m not sure what to pursue for my next steps.
