I lived in one in first year, and had a fantastic time. If you've got any specific questions then I'd be happy to answer them.

Have you read the first page of this thread?

asap it's first come first served for choices.

Ok so there is no specific time accommodation 'opens for application' or whatever? Because a lady at the open day said December, first come first served.....

I've been told December too (though it likely comes from the same source as yours... Or it could have been me that told you December at the open day ).

However, having looked at the website a few days ago it looks distinctly open for applications. If you fancy having a look (you can go further into the system than I can because it requires log in) and telling us if you can apply now, then I shall be grateful and rep shall be forthcoming :yep:

Oooooh yay, IT WORKED!! You're right, you need the ID number given to you in a confirmation email/letter to properly apply. It obvious doesn't start from December, and it wasn't you who told me so don't worry  (unless you are a mixed race northern lady and you wore black on the open day......then yes it was you who mis-informed me!! :unimpressed:) Aha, it's all good now so thanks for the advice :borat:
I'll be a nursing student and I would like to live in nice halls, en suit, not stupidly loud and in city centre. Any ideas? Wifi would be a bonus. There are just hardly any pictures on internet I can find. Cheers if you can shed light on it for me.

Ok, Thanks a lot  but I was just wondering as well, if I would go to live somwhere closer, are there not any halls where there's a little less partying but it's still fun?

If you want less partying but not dead, then Victoria Park will probably be better for you. However, it should be noted that the buses that go up Upper Brook Street are noticeably less frequent than those that go up Wilmslow Road from Fallowfield.

I am neither mixed race nor northern, so it wasn't me  However, the accommodation office did tell the people who were working on the open day that applications would open in December, so I'm sure it wasn't her fault that she misinformed you (I was telling people December too).

Repped

There are some pictures on the first page of this thread.

Do be aware that the halls on city campus tend to be rather quiet and to have large numbers of internationals, who aren't exactly known for their partying (or socialising) ways. So, you may find it harder to make friends. If you're particularly worried about how loud halls might be because of your course, then I will note that (according to tillytots) there's no placement until after christmas (when halls will be noticeably quieter anyway), and even then it's only one day a week. So, your course will have very little impact on what halls you need / want to be in.

If you want en suite halls near the city centre, then you'll want some of the halls that are on north campus (NB this will mean a ~20 minute walk into uni for you), which essentially leaves you with Weston Hall - but Weston Hall is notoriously unsociable (see the review on the first page of this thread).

Hmm, according to alow it's only taking applications for 2013/14, not 2014/15 (which is the year you need) :frown: http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=2459179&p=45294473

Lol yeah, i just got an email from Manchester accomodation saying they've cancelled my application because it is invalid/incorrect

You were right the first time, we must wait till December....oops my bad :colondollar:
Hey there I was just wondering if I apply for accommodation in December (even though I haven't visited yet, got an offer but no visitor applicant day yet) will I be able to change my mind after. Just asking because Birmingham does this and I'll still be in the front of the queue if I did so :colondollar:

Yes, you can. If you change your mind then you can email [email protected] and you will still keep your place in the queue.

Nope, they've been rather vague, so you'll just have to keep checking back. Have you decided which three options you're applying for?

Not sure about law open days - but if there are they'll let you know, and if you're desperate to know then I would suggest emailing them to ask.

Aye, three choices
Hey guys

So I'm thinking of putting Manchester as my firm, and I've really fancied Whitworth Park. Does anyone think of any better accommodation that's self-catered and near the Language buildings? WP is like a five minute walk, if that. It just seems too perfect to be true ^_^

Thanks ahead of time

WP is the closest undergrad accommodation to the language teaching buildings. However, I would argue that relative distance shouldn't be the first and foremost factor in your decision making process. Have you read the first page of this thread?

Whitworth Park is a very good choice if I say so myself . Languages are mainly taught in Sam Alex and that's the closest you're going to get as the other city halls are a lot further down though.

Grosvenor is also pretty close to the campus, not sure which is nearer.

However, I personally wouldnt recommend living in either for first year, make the right choice and live in OP/Oak house. You wont regret it.

Whitworth Park is a great accommodation - I'm currently living there  It's the perfect location especially for Language buildings - it means lie-ins too. The problem some people have with Whitworth is whether it's too quiet. Personally I think it depends who you have in your flat - mine are pretty loud and party a lot. I'd definitely recommend putting it down. Don't hesitate to ask any questions about it
