I feel so lonely after moving out

Hello

I recently got a new job and therefore had to move out. I feel so lonely here :frown:
I lived with my parents so there was always someone around me. And I was very close to all my friends.

Weeks aren't that bad, I finish work at 5 or 6pm so I don't really have time to be bored and depressed. But the weekends... They suck. This week I'm on holiday and it's only been 2 days (since some of my friends travelled all the way to come here for the 1st time on Saturday) and I'm already bored to death. Also, I live far away from all my friends now so most of them don't invite me to do things anymore.

I joined a tennis club and the gym. I have 2 or 3 coworkers that are alright and that I see once in a while outside work. But I still feel lonely, alone in this flat. It took me ages to find decent friends where I lived. How can I quickly find new people to hang out with in this new city?

Thank you
I know how you feel. I moved to a new city to be with my boyfriend, and I've met loads of people through him like his friends and family, but even then he's my only really close friend. Making new friends is incredibly difficult after a certain point in life. I just started to go to things like nightclubs and festivals on my own, in order to learn to have fun alone and not rely on people, but there have also been a few times I've made new friends with people I met at these places. I've also used the internet to meet people, like Girlfriend Social, where I met one really good friend who I meet quite regularly throughout the year to go raving with, and I've used Couchsurfing to meet people to socialise with. These activities can be all hit-and-miss though, but they're worth a try if you're that lonely, you have nothing to lose. Oh, and if you happen to be living in or near Edinburgh, I'll be your friend

Thank you very much. It's always interesting to read stories like yours. It helps a lot, it shows that other people have gone through this. I visited Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen about 10 years ago, when I was only a kid. Even though I don't remember much, I really liked your country. Unfortunately I'm French so I don't live near, otherwise it would have been a pleasure

Good idea to go alone. I go to the cinema alone sometimes and wouldn't mind doing other things alone. It's great to be outside but that never allowed me to meet new people... Thanks for the online ideas. I'll try couchsurfing if it works in my country. I agree, it's scary because you don't know what/who to expect but yes, it's worth a try

I can stop at 3pm if I want to but I would have to start early in the morning. And I don't want to
