How to get into a product design course, not done art at GCSE or A Level

Hello

OK so this is possibly the biggest long shot in a while, but I have always had a little nagging at the back of my head, telling me that I seriously want to design stuff, I am always doodling things and designs for buildings and products.

I didn't do any art lessons at school (music lessons) all I did was DT. My current college wouldn't let me take on art without GCSE art or a portfolio.

OK, so you're probably wondering why I wasn't pursuing this kind of thing, well it is a bit of a secret, I've never told any one. My parents are pretty traditional, so I just kept it to myself.

Is there any kind of way I could get into a design based degree? As you can probably tell I am completely clueless about design degrees and the like.
