I don't understand how you can be 17 when you start uni without having skipped a year. Surely everyone is 18 before the end of August?

I'm Scottish (there's an answer for you!). Our school system is a bit different so you can be 17 for quite a while after starting university - my birthday is in January so I spent the whole of my first term and the first couple of weeks of my second as a 17 year old. I could actually technically have gone to a Scottish university when I was 16 as I had the qualifications required, but that would just have been stupid really!

I took a gap year so I'll be 20 when I start at uni in a few weeks time. BUt despite being 20, still look about 18!
I'll be 17, I was skipped a grade.
I'll be 19-my birthday is a week today!
