Hey  ,

An engineering foundation year is "theoretically" equivalent to a science/engineering access course. You can actually get on to an undergraduate engineering degree (year 1) on the back of an access course without doing a foundation year (year 0).

I was on an engineering access course (maths, physics) but did not complete to due to health problems, but majority of the students on the engineering stream got into the universities of their choice, without any problems (respectable ones too).

Some universities ask students from access to go through the foundation year,as some access courses are maths deficient, according to the universities. They have a point due to the lack of uniformity of access courses, where some have enough maths/physics material roughly equivalent to A level while others are somehow inferior in quality.A lot of them accept engineering access courses though.

Frankly,i don't see the point of anyone doing an access course then going to foundation year.If that is the case, then why don't just go straight on to a foundation year without going through access ? Both courses are for those that wish to study engineering but lack the qualifications/standard required to get on to an undergraduate degree.

Regards  .
