Broadgate park transfer

Im currently living in Derby halls and as muhc as everyone ive met here are a sound group im getting a bit sick of queueing for meals whihc are pretty crap (although probbaly better than i expected). I also miss the independence i had when i was home. For these reasons im thinking about transferring to self catered. what are the rooms like at broadgate and are there any room types i should avoid/try to get? does anyone find it a bit of a treck to their lectures in a morning from broadgate? Anyone know muhc about the transfer process? do you have to get down there pretty early and queue for ages? Ive got a lecture at 9, but i dont mind missing it if it means i get the room im after.

cheers
hey, i cant answer about the rooms etc, but it wont be that much of a trek as im staying in willoughby which isnt even 5 mins away from broadgate, and i manage

Catered is such a pain isn't it? I think I'm just going to try and put up with it as it's only 30 or so weeks of my life hehe.
Broadgate is literally right outside the main campus so I can't imagine it's a 'trek' to lectures at all. It would be fine in that respect.
I never knew you could transfer...interesting. I'd love to be self-catered but I like where my hall is. People are alright, but I haven't me my 'best friends' or anything like that.
Broadgate is pretty nice  I went there for a cheese toastie the other day. It isn't far either.
I've been considering the same....
I don't really mix at mealtimes, I'm not a great talker at mealtimes, prefer to talk other times, and have meals when I want! I missed breakfast + lunch yesterday, and breakfast today because I didn't have time to get it.
If I was self catered, it'd be a lot more flexible in terms of mealtimes.
I do like my location though (Lincoln)..

I made it down to three breakfasts during two years in catered halls. (I always had cereal infront of the TV). You can time your visits to the dining hall so you don't have to queue; you don't have to be there bang on 1pm. And for the days when the food looks questionable, then there's always Amigo's, Canton Chef, Savera, Beeston Tandoori, Domino's, Charcoal Grill...

Hey there!
I'm living in Broadgate and you should definately move here, its so awesome! I'm in standard accom, which is the cheapest and therefore i assumed it would be the lowest of the low, but it's acctually really nice! the rooms are a nice size and good furniture, really pleased with it. I'ts a twenty minute walk to chemistry in the mornings, which is right on the west side of the campus, so the trek is not too bad. I also think it's better living off campus, and plus beeston is right on your doorstep here. The self-catered thing is also much better, like you say far more independance and you get to eat whatever whenever , awesome. OH, and I found a LIDL's today....mmmm.....cheap food  :P.
The only thing is that self-catered isn't as social as catered, as far as I can tell, mainly coz u can't meet people at dinner and stuff like that. But the flats are really cool, 6 ppl a flat, and my housemates are awesome. Even if you're not so lucky with house mates there are loads of other flats in the building so planty of people to get to know. The bar is also one of the biggest ones, and there is a pool table and fussball table and cheap drinks, so its not too bad for socialising.
I don't know anything about the transfer system but i hope i've helped anyway.
Good luck!

alright again.
I successfully trasnferred to broagate today. got a pretty nice room, though it was more expensive than i liked. i still spend most of my time in derby as the ppl i used to live with are ****ing sorted, the meals where basically the only reason i decided to leave.
i have only met one of my room mates so far who seems to be pretty sorted, though the social life there doesnt seem too good. all my room mates are 3rd years apparently. derby will still be where my heart is. Even now im in the ****** derby computer room typing this.
Any of the broadgate massive fancy a meet up some time soon as i feel a bit isolated now im in broadgate?

Queuing is a pain - that's why you queue 15min early, before the start of dinner. It's what I do! Or else I just cut the queue to where my friends are further ahead :p:

Derby meal was nice today! And two days ago that lasagne was nice and the dessert - seriously the dessert! Raspberry and cream - it was gooooorgeous! Although I'm thinking of Broadgate maybe for next year or something cus I only really eat tea in halls - I miss every breakfast and lunch everyday so what's the point? Although the thing that's putting me off is the trek to QMC all the way from broadgate :frown: I mean, walking from Derby is far enough for me...

I love Derby but the Derby computer room is so crap. The computers don't have microsoft word or excel on it! How the hell are you meant to print your work off in there!? Lucky for me I can print at QMC at my convenience considering I have lectures there everyday.

Hey what block are you in? What's your name? I haven't seen you around (could well be because I got no idea what you look like)
