Business analyst vs wealth management IB internship

So i need help with which internship i should go for....

1. The first one is opportunity in an International emerging markets bank in their Wholesale Banking Operations team as a Business Analyst...... which is 3-4 months

2. The second one is Investment Bank across the areas of Human Resources, IT, Operations and Wealth Management, gonna choose wealth managment .... which is for about 2 months

Both are paid quite a bit, but I haven't got a clue which one would be better, because im doing it with a programme for A2 students this summer and im not too sure about which one would be better as they haven't told the firms names at all

also would be nice if anyone told me what each department does exactly because I only get the basic idea of welath management and wholesale banking :s-smilie:

Seeing as you do not know the names of the banks, and thus their reputation, and you are only doing your A2's (early days yet) I would suggest to just go for the internship which is longer i.e. #1 because that way you have more time to gain experience, network and progress further into your team/ project.

I'm not allowed to know there names until they give an interview first :/
I thought that, but one of the guys on this programme previously gained UBS's trust and eventually got hired after graduation

Business Analyst where I currently work does a lot of analysis using excel. The BA team go to a company, analyse their problems to make them more efficient. They will suggest improvements or make it "lean" (search Six Sigma on google).

Wealth Management peepz from what I have seen do a lot of advice on how people will invest their money. You will have to analyse the customers' wealth, see which are good to invest the money in etc.

If you're thinking of money, WM is the way. BUT for experience at your age, Business Analyst sounds more exciting. You will learn a lot of the industry IMO if you go for Business Analyst. OF course, this depends on what you want to do later on in life. Business Analyst are more general whereas WM is more specific/specialise. So if you want the whole overview of BFSI, go for Business Analyst.

Two very different divisions lol, I would advise to focus on your A levels and get into a good target uni and then decide which division you are most attracted to in the first few months and apply for Spring Weeks.

As for picking your internship, try not to let the pay affect your decision, go with what you will find most interesting/learn the most because the pay will be negligible in the long run.

LOL I am thinking of changing my name as I have been getting a lot of those rep lately. Anyhoo, I am currently working in operations, and from what I see, it is the centre of my department - that is the case for where I am currently working.

Yeah that's what I was thinking as well but I don't know.. I am still not clear what career path I am going to take. I thought that doing Economics will make it clearer what to do in life but now I am stuck what to do lol That's the reason why I am doing this year internship for my gap year (this year) and it did helped narrowing down my choices.

So if I were you, go for the Business Analyst to give you a sense of flavour of business. But obs if you are really interested in WM then go for that.

Good luck!

Burnout but will earn lots of cash! Actually if in the future I decided to pursue an IB career, I am planning to leave quite early (just 8 years in the industry) and then do consultancy after that - probably somewhere nice like Hong Kong/USA.

I think I've burnt out already :frown: like i've become complacent and my grades have fallen in the last few years :'(

I was thinking of IB for a few years then Islamic IB then go into something non-financial but paying very well and low hours

very good advice that I received:

If you are not enjoying the job anymore, get out and look for another job that interests you.

But that's not applicable for your studies... Just think that it isn't the end of the world if you don't get into OxBridge. As long as you do well at Uni, you should be fine.
