ah, id been doing so well and then ate like a quarter of the biggest, richest chocolate cake ever.. i feel really down now, i know that it sounds ridiculous, but i do :frown:
Brunch: Tuna, onion and pea omlette with grilled tomatos and apple juice
Snacks: Alpen light cereal bar, grapes, sultanas
Dinner: Meze (tabbouleh, grilled halloumi, stuffed vine leaf, hummus), grilled chicken with couscous, balkava.

Exercise: 1 hour pilates, 40 minute walk

------

Bit of an odd day today - I was at work from 12.30 - 4.30, so had to eat before then, but couldn't really snack at work, plus didn't want to eat too much cause we we're going out for dinner. My dinner sounds massive, but it wasn't really (I don't think), everything was a very small portion. I'm pretty sure I haven't gone over my calorie limit for today

Hey guys, can I ask a kinda basic question? (I know, I just did, but humour me...)

Is there anything specific some-one within their healthy BMI could do to lose weight? I'm pretty much following NHS health guidelines to the dot (30 mins exercise 5 times a week, heathly balanced diet, etc.) and am slap bang in the middle of my healthy BMI. However, I only want to lose another 8lb max., which would take me to the lower end of the healthy BMI.

Basic stuff like 'cut out the snacking' isn't going to work here, which is why I'm struggling. My gut instinct is just to increase the exercise a little... ideas?

try running, it will tone you up nicely if you're already slim.

First day back being consciously healthy. Stocked up on fruit, vegetables, chick peas, kidney beans and fish. Coming back to an empty flat definitely has advantages, there are no crisps, sweets, chocolate or ice-cream and I find that when its not there I don't really miss it.

Went for a run for the first time in 4 weeks. That first one is always a killer! Did a route that 4 weeks ago would've been a nice recovery run. Today I barely made it. Can't even blame the weather as it was pretty much perfect - nice and cool with no wind.
Still it's a start and things should only get easier from here on
Did another half hour on the wii fit today :3 It'll be great if I can keep it up! Stocked up on lots of Green Tea so I'll be taking a load to work tomorrow to replace the cappuccinos and hot chocolates I keep having... as well as making sure I don't run hypo and have to snack >_<
^ Had four mugs of green tea this evening, chug it down!
^ I LOVE Green Tea.
Up nice and early this morning (yes, this is early for me). Went to a party last night and behaved myself pretty well on the buffet, so not too bad I don't think. Got on the scales this morning and am already a pound lighter than I was on Monday, so hopefully I can get another one gone by Monday. Need to if I'm going to hit this "stone before uni" target!

Well done.

I'm having a bad week. :frown: Posted about it a page or so back but I don't think anyone saw lol. Is it normal for me to look in the mirror and think I look really fat still, even though I've lost a stone and my friends all comment saying they can notice?

I get like that all the time! I just look at myself and think how fat I still look (well I guess I am still 2 stone overweight) and how huge my stomach is.. then I think how awful I must have looked with an extra 4 and a half stone! But yeah I think it's normal :-).

Fair enough. I think I feel worse because I haven't been able to exercise this week and I'm worried. But I do have a stone or so to go yet, so I'm not thinking "god I look fat" for no reason at all. Just wish I could see the progress.

Take photos of yourself in your underwear in a mirror and/or take measurements (bust, waist, hips, plus thighs/ calves/ upper arms/ neck or wherever else you like).

A lot of people (myself included) can struggle to see the difference in their bodies as they lose weight, possibly because we see ourselves every day and the differences are therefore small from day to day. Remind yourself of how far you've come, of how well you've done

Thanks. I feel especially bad at the moment because I've been unable to exercise for a week, and this makes me feel awful. But I'll get on with it as soon as possible and hopefully get back on track.
I might buy myself a measuring tape. Will probably help, seeing as I feel like I haven't changed at all lol.

First of all, welcome to the thread. This is for anyone who would like to make positive and healthy steps towards changing their life. This could be losing weight, gaining weight, gaining muscle, improving your stamina- whatever you like.

Please feel free to post helpful links and resources, I will be more than happy to add them into this starting post if they're helpful. Also, when you post for the first time, please introduce yourself and include your aims, stats and a little bit about your situation!

Maybe if this thread has the right attitude, we might be able to get it stickied.. who knows.

Useful Links/Resources

BMI Calculator
Although BMI is not the be all and end all, it can give you a rough indication of how much weight you have to lose, or whether you're a healthy weight. Obviously if you're building muscle this will not be entirely accurate for you; but for most who are trying to lose weight this is helpful.

BMR Calculator
Your BMR is basically how many calories you'd burn on an average day if you did nothing. You should eat over your BMR if you're gaining weight, and under it if you're losing weight. Obviously you have to factor in how many calories you're burning during exercise, too.

MyFitnessPal
This allows you to keep a track of how much you're eating and how much exercise you're doing. The forums are helpful for specialist advice and there are lots of progress photos which I always find to be very helpful and motivating.

SparkPeople
Similar to MFP, also includes exercise videos, workout/stretch routines and healthy lifestyle articles.

TickerFactory
If you want to keep everyone updated with your progress, a ticker is very helpful (like the one I have in my sig). It helps to show how far you've come, and how far you have left to go. You can update your ticker at any time simply by clicking on it in your sig.

some smartphone diet apps are really good, myfitnesspal lets you log all the food youve had and your weight. im using noom at the moment, but im only logging my weight. but it does also let you log your exercises and your meals too

I know the feeling after not being able to exercise :frown:

I'm sure you've been moving around a little though, even just doing normal things like showering and walking around the house or whatever. Just because it isn't structured workout time, doesn't mean you aren't at least burning some calories!

When I get to the end of the day and find I haven't done any exercise, I run up & down the stairs a couple of times .

Yeah. Well I've had to wear a heart monitor all week, and so haven't been able to do exercise really at all. I did a little on the wii, but hardly. I just wanted to have lost more by now, but never mind. Things happen... At least I haven't gained
Thanks
Good day so far again

Eating-wise:
Breakfast was apple & blueberry porridge made with skimmed milk, with a banana chopped up on top (yum) and a glass of water.
Morning snack was a rather large pear and a cup of decaff coffee made with skimmed milk.
Probably going to have soup, grapes and a yogurt for lunch, and tea is going to be one of my dad's amazing curries with plain rice. Think he's doing one with chicken, sultanas and onion and I know he always uses low-fat yogurt etc so shouldn't be too bad. I'll just steer away from the chapatis/poppadoms...

Exercise-wise:
I took the dog for a walk fairly early this morning up on the common, so lots of hills. Got a little bit lost though and ended up walking for longer than intended (and having to walk through hawthorn bushes... :s-smilie:) - about 55 minutes.
I'm planning to do my Pilates DVD this afternoon because I've noticed recently I'm really weak! Need to start improving my strength so I've resolved to do Pilates at least 3 times a week from now on, and let good old Jillian's 30 day shred back into my life too...

Also seriously considering joining a gym. This is because if I keep up with the swimming and spinning classes twice a week I'll be spending around £50 a month just on those alone. If I join a gym, that's what? £34 for a whole month which would include unlimited swims and classes AND I'd get to (eek!) try my hand on the big scary machines...

Might get my boyfriend to get me in as a guest to DW Sports where he goes. Does anyone else go there? It seems to be the most popular in my area, but I don't know if that might present issues...

Gosh I'm babbling today. Sorry.
Managed an hour and a half in the gym today, with no shaking/feeling faint

Also, I had a sneaky step on the scales this morning, and I've lost nearly 1lb in the last two days
