I have a question about te entry requirements that's some unis display. Such as the fact that Nottingham has the same entry requirements for MEng and BEng, what is the 'trick' here since one course is a bachelor and the other is a masters. I.e if I have AAB which I the minimum I have the same chance of going to BEng and MEng?

I'm applying for Chemical engineering (MEng) at Aberdeen and Heriot-Watt in Edinburgh. I'm totally stuck between chemical and petroleum engineering though. It's going to take a while to decide.

i have a chemical engineeringbase personal statement but im taking the risk of applying to 1 uni for petroleum and the rest for chemical engineering

on ucas it says that nottinghams requirement is AAB but on nottinghams website it says that its AAB-ABB

if you had read the link you would see that they are already accredited. End of. Its on the IchemE website theres no point saying otherwise, no matter who told you what; its published. Btw even if leeds did tell you that (which i seriously doubt), from my own experience i know that the info they email back to you isnt always correct. There would be nothing awkward if you had actually read the link.

Of course it matter. The reserach performance of the uni reflects its academic reputation, hence how well employers respect the uni in terms of how good it is; this is why russel group unis are so presyigious. Do you honestly believe an employer cares for "satisfaction" more than academic reputation and research. The whole point of a uni is so that you can land a more prestigious, interesting and well paid job, at least as far as im concerned

i fully understood your point and took it into account. You think red bricks have no advantage over non-red bricks, because you think it just means that the uni has red bricks. You think when an employer thinks of red bricks he literally thinks of Red Bricks. I'm explaining what the title means and represents. You also said, what ir represents is what it was initially set up for, which is true, but that itself shows that they are a specialist in the field.

This is a forum for discussions on education. Naturally debates occur in order for indivisuals to have discussions on what's important in a student's life. Get over it and dont give offencive trollish comments, please :troll2:

funny how your sources are correct and my own and their website page is wrong. MY ARGUMENT REGARDLESS IS CLEAR THE TIME IT HAS TAKEN FOR ACCREDIATION IN COMPARISON THE A BRAND NEW COURSE AT SHEFFIELD IS TO ME CONCERNING. I wont even begin on the research argument, because there are many unis with a apparently better research output that people wouldnt ever consider putting before a non research intensive uni. Such as Bath and leeds. Bath not russel group or widely cited as a research uni and leeds is,however, Bath in terms of prestige and reputation is quite a bit ahead of leeds.
Please stop being so stubbourn!

i dont 100% understand what your saying, because your sentences make no grammatical sense..but i dont know how old the courses at each uni is or how long it took them to receive accredition (whatever kind of accredition it is YOU'RE thinking of, because it clearly can't be IchemE). Funny how you went from saying leeds aint accredited, to awaiting accredition, to they haven't been accredited for long..clearly you have much more reliable sources of information..but i guess however unimportant i think that is anyway, if that's something that you find important in a uni, assuming what you've just said is correct according to whatever source of info you're getting it from, then i guess sheffield and bath are the unis for you.

"there are many unis with a apparently better research output that people wouldnt ever consider putting before a non research intensive uni. Such as Bath"

I didnt completely comprehend that, but hearsay's cheap, buddy. i go by facts and figures and the facts say leeds outperforms bath at chemeng. "apparently better" means nothing.

"Bath in terms of prestige and reputation is quite a bit ahead of leeds."

i dont know where got that from, especially something so incredibly generalised, but clearly you have your own sources of info which you stand firm by, despite their contradiction to official reports (since you clearly dont accept icheme as accredition)

But this doesnt matter now, we've both applied. Good luck with life, i hope you enjoy your "student satisfaction" at uni, coz it aint gonna mean much after you graduate, not that it means much anyway.
Come on guys, spread love not hate...condoms are cheaper than bullets!
And just making sure, are we all dudes up in here? :erm:
I'm applying to UCL, Manchester, Nottingham, Loughborough and Sheffield, with grades AAAB in AS and predicted AAAA for all four.
Anyone know the significance of GCSEs for the universities, since mine aren't all that great, but they are of the UCLES exam board. That's right :colone:

Well, most chemeng students are dudes and i certainly am too (dont worry i've checked). And for that reason, im not too keen on the condoms.. :erm:..(i mean generally anyway )

They shouldn't matter that much, chemeng isnt THAT competitive. How bad are they?

well your argument collapses when you say leeds out performs bath. Dont make me laugh.

 Oo big talk. Well so far everything you said is backed my absolutely nothing, whereas im presenting you with facts. Why dont you put your research where your mouth is and find me ONE respected and influencial league table or a statistic from an official report to suggest it.

Hint: If i were you, i'd stay weeeeeeell away from aany world ranking or RAE. Good luck.

oh right great argument, didnt you compare using rae earlier; and you have somehow concluded leeds is better than sheffield and bath without using any rankings either. hmm. Of course you know more than everyone else ever could!!

Yes i did, they came joint third as a matter of fact if you had actually READ it.

QS world ranking, Academic world university ranking and the times world ranking ALL indicate that bath isnt even in the top isnt even in the top 200..

QS, being the only one to have a ranking for chemeng ranked leeds higher than sheffield. The guardian and complete university guide also ranked leeds ahead of sheffield, despite the fact that they're not very reliable and seem to be hell-bent on bath and loughborough. But then again they're also hell-bent on lancaster and other internationally unknown uni like bath.

But i guess you could only ever recognise this if you could actually READ these things. Also, i guess you know better than all of this evidence put forth, dont you? Didny you say leeds wasnt accredited..oh wait no, they're awaiting accredition..oh wait no, they've got accredition, it just hasn't been very long..

Gimme a break man, just listen to yourself. Talk about knowing when to give up :ashamed:

My GCSEs aren't really bad. A*A*AAABBC just get paranoid when put next to all those hopeless medicine applicants haha
Leeds and Bath guys, you need to chillllll. Obviously one likes Bath, the other Leeds. Let's just hope you guys dont end up going to somewhere else together. I can already see that all-out brawl :fight:

haha yh being a former medicine applicant i know what you mean. i can't but notice you only have 8 gcses. Did you take double science? They may not like that. Generally they wont look twice of you got at least 6 A/A*s, but you've got 2 A*s so i guess you'll be fine.

If it makes you feel any better, i had a friend who got into the london school on pharmacy and manchester with only 3 As and no A*s. GCSEs arent that important, unless you're doing medicine or law. But yh, dont let them hold back your ambitions it doesnt put at any real disadvantage. Good luck

Yeah I only did eight since I lived in Egypt for my GCSEs, and over there 8 seems like a LOT
Nope i didn't do double science, only ever heard of that once i cam here. I'll just tell you each subject haha
A*s in Bio and Chem, As in maths, history and ICT, Bs in physics and english as a first language and a C in accounting.
I was looking into medicine, but then i heard of all that BMAT and UKCAT and 6 years for some universities, so no way for me lol way too lazy for all that.
How come you switched?

Yh the entrance exams are a real pain. I kinda got pressured into it by my family. I applied anyway coz i couldnt think of any other course to do. I got a place from Warwick for biomed, but as soon as i found out about chemeng, i rejected that ****!

Chemeng is supposed to be one of the hardest courses though, so dont get too relaxed about being lazy:wink:. Just a heads up

I sent my application off last friday and it was processed on monday. I just tried the best I could to relate the things I've done to chem eng. What exactly are you struggling with?

I'm applying to UCL, doubt I'll get an offer though o.o

I'm not a dude
And I swear ChemEng is way less of a cockfest than other engineering disciplines..

I'm applying for Birmingham, UCL, Loughborough, Newcastle and Aston/Surrey/?. And then HKUST in Hong Kong

Has everyone sent their applications off already? :s-smilie:

Well yes its is less of a "cockfest" as you put it :teehee:. Roughly 30% are girls.

Send it off ASAP, it's almost Novemeber! but dont worry, chemeng isnt THAT competitive
