Should Jewish people drive German cars?

So recently me and my mum had an argument about this and she believes that they shouldn't even consider buying a car produced by a german manufacture considering the past events in the holocaust.

It all started when I was in my mum's car and we were at a set of traffic lights. Next thing you know a guy in a convertible pulls up alongside us wearing the full jewish attire and because he pulled up a bit ahead of us I notice the badge at the rear of the car, and needless to say it was a BMW.
So I mutter for a joke "look at this jewish guy in his bmw showing off”. And my mum replies, "he has no no shame".
Then I look at her and say, "its just a car, its not like he worships the germans or whatever".
Then angrily she says "what the germans did was one of the most atrocious crimes in all of history and he should be a bit more sensitive to the issue."
And I'm just sitting thinking wtf its a flippin car god damn.

Anyway sorry for getting a bit carried away there but this is how it went back and forth.

So the question is, is it really such a big deal for a jew to drive a german car?
And please I don't want anyone insulting my mum, if you think she's wrong please state why in a non offensive way. Thanks

It's not about saying whether they should. It's about asking whether they'd want to. Overall I don't think they'd care too much.
So she won't drive a Skoda either?

Anyway, moving the **** off. The past is the past, the past won't change, get over it, move on.

yes, it's a stupid view. Hardly any Nazis are still alive and you can't exactly hold their descendants accountable for the holocaust

Completely agree that it is their choice, whether they choose to let the past affect the present or not is their decision, nothing wrong with the Jewish man driving the BMW in my opinion.

Why not? It's not like they're secret gas chambers...

No it's not. Most people are less sensitive about things such as cars being foreign now. Yes, I think she is wrong because people don't buy cars just because of the badge choice. Moreover, most German cars tend to be the best made cars in the world. This man you mentioned may have bought one because it was more reliable than most. But if she says German cars are bad, then the same must be said for Italian and Japanese cars....
If the guy in the car is fine with his own money going to support german workers then that's his business.

So many people these days are all too happy to be offended on behalf of others.

Also you are forgetting lots of other people were also killed:

Trade unionists (well only the Union leaders can afford these cars anyway)
Socialists (are just butthurt they don't drive such cars)
Jehova's Witnesses
Slavs
Christians (many Christians in Germany had Jewish ancestry and were also killed-Oh, and Catholics too)
French resistance fighters
Homosexuals
Gypsies
Mentally ill people
Disabled people
Loads of other groups

By your mother's logic this company should be bust.

The idea of the gas chamber came from a Nazi who got drunk and was nearly gassed in his own car.

Ok, as a jew i can say that practically no one cares if the car makers of their cars are german, simply because most german people are very nice to jews nowadays and feel awful for the holocaust, and its not a reason to hate them.
Most people buy a car beacuse they like it, not because what the car represents. Japanese people do buy american cars (een tho they shouldnt, because they are *** ), etc etc.

Anyways, most of the car companies that have assisted the Nazi movement during the holocaust have apologised for it, and its the past now.

It isn't like no one in Japan uses American products or no one in say, south-east asia uses Japanese products.

The people who did those terrible acts are either dead or too old to be getting any serious benefits from a Jewish person buying German things, and there's no harm I would say.

it's all up to an individual's choice...

Seems extreme to me, it's not like the car was made by Nazis...Does she also disapprove when Jewish people wear Adidas clothing as well?
Would she say Australians, Indians, Pakistanis, New Zealanders etc. should refrain from buying British things because of what happened during the time of the British Empire? Same principle.

Indeed, and these Chinese yuppies who buy Japanese made goods.
Surely it's down to the individual Jew on whether they want to buy a German car or not? :p: Is your mum Jewish, out of curiosity? Besides, there's a danger of conflating Germans and Nazis.

hahahaha, fantastic thread title.
If I was a Jew I wouldn't drive a VW. Just sayin'.
Germans and Nazis are compeletly different people with different thoughts. Don't get them mixed!
