What to wear to a house party?

I have reasons to be anon, so please keep anon

I have a houseparty tomorrow and I barely ever go to them, and I'm just wondering what to wear.

I'm going out tomorrow to buy some new clothes and thought I'd pick up something for it.

Anyone know?

I have a pair of brown chinos but what shoes and tops would match etc?

Thanks.

Just a polo shirt and some brown shoes. I usually wear things like this;

Not too formal, not too casual, same idea with the polo shirt.
Are you male or female?

Looks better than what most other people wear.

Don't wear anything too expensive, no matter what you wear to house parties you will end up getting it ruined some how.

I personally don't wear chinos (not my style at all) so I can't really say what would look good with them from experience. Maybe a shirt sort of like: http://resources.shopstyle.com.au/sim/0c/92/0c924ed25e53444f98d6d4378c501638/house-of-fraser-longsleeve-tops-womens-maggie-and-me-button-frill-top.jpg and then just with brown shoes like: http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/img-thing?.out=jpg&size=l&tid=25112248

Not sure if male or female ¬_¬
I just wear what I normally wear, I mean, you aren't gonna get turned away at the door and things will probably get messy if it's any sort of party

I think pretty much all the house parties I've been to have been fancy dress :s-smilie:

But like Tripudate says, nothing too nice, because it most likely will get messed up.

Wear a tux, even if you are female.

Can't go wrong with a tux.
Just a decent t shirt, with a check plaid shirt over it. Can use the chinos with it, then some casual shoes, or even trainers to a house party.

True story, my ex actually wore a fez to a house party. xDD
Whatever you like to wear that is casual but looks like you have made an effort.

Also, lol at those hiking shoes...

Why would you ever wear shoes like that. Why would you do that to yourself?

Wear what you're comfortable in, you can dress up if you want to but no one's going to criticise you either way.
