Thing is though it doesn't specifically say on the leaflet that priority will be given to comprehensive schools...
They just want people who are dedicated and actually want to go to the US and have a good chance of getting in

If I remember correctly parents income and university backgrounds were part of the mandatory information required as well as schools. I know that I was the only person my school pushed to go for the scheme as I tick more of the boxes as I come from a non-university background. I doubt that comprehensive schooling is a mandatory requirement to get onto the scheme but it will almost certainly be an advantage.

A quote from the website (http://www.suttontrust.com/us-summer-school/):

"Eligibility
The scheme is aimed at bright, committed students at state schools, who are seriously interested in studying in the US. We will be looking for candidates who:

-Be in year 12 in state schools or colleges
-Have achieve 8 or more A* or A grades at GCSE or equivalent
-Are from non-privileged homes with combined household incomes below £40,000 a year
-Show commitment to the programme as demonstrated in their application
-Have a strong reference from a teacher or advisor
-Hold UK citizenship"

I think this pretty much says it all.
