Re: Resolution 2012/04 - Concerning the Situation in North Korea
The United States has stopped sending food aid to the majority of people on the basis of the minority action? Utterly ridiculous and we'll buffer this shortage instead. Once again, ridiculous. Russia won't support this motion.

Re: Resolution 2012/04 - Concerning the Situation in North Korea
Japan, naturally, supports the resolution. North Korea have proven themselves to be, among other things, impossible to trust, inconsistent and have been known to possess a general ignorance against the will of the rest of the rest of the world, as well as diplomacy and stability. These traits were highlighted in this particular case, where North Korea still continues with these tests, despite doubts over the launch's legitimacy amidst fears of it being a long-range missile test, and many, including its closest neighbours, expressing said doubts and that it could be a threat to stability and peace. Even China, which has supported North Korea in the past, shares these views.
Therefore, we have drawn up this resolution in a last attempt to offer North Korea a chance to explain itself by pursuing diplomatic dialogue and that the proposed operation be ceased immediately. Others may have been a lot harsher with them, but Japan retains the sentiment that it should offer one last chance to North Korea. If the resolution passes, and North Korea ignores it, Japan cannot promise that other states will not act more aggressively against them and their actions.
Japan, once again, reminds North Korea that it is in the interests of its people to cease the operation, for the food packages from the US have stopped due to it. Japan hopes that North Korea acts with the will of its people instead of its arrogance.
Japan has enjoyed working with its neighbour South Korea and ally the USA on this resolution.Last edited by DebatingGreg; 05-04-2012 at 17:42. -
Re: Resolution 2012/04 - Concerning the Situation in North Korea
Though Finland was not in favour of the the US's stopping of food packages to the North Korean people, it notes that North Korea is showing ignorance to peace and stability by continuing with the operation without diplomatic and proper dialogue. Therefore, Finland supports the resolution, and hopes that North Korea acts accordingly for the good of both stability and its people.

Latvia loses hope with North Korea. Latvia supports this resolution and hopes that North Korea opens its inward nation to international investment and I can assure the North Korean representative that any measures from its Government to open its country would be met with universal support from the Baltic Partnership and the wider international community.

Re: Resolution 2012/04 - Concerning the Situation in North Korea
Once again, North Korea is showing ignorance to the will of the world. Indeed, they state that they shall continue their "projects with or without the support of the UN". They ignore what the world says, they ignore what their people need instead focusing on weapons and corruption, and now wish to ignore the UN for its own pursuits. It even goes so far as to warn members in their involvement. Japan, quite frankly, finds their position laughable, and certainly not one to be trusted.

Re: Resolution 2012/04 - Concerning the Situation in North Korea
Zimbabwe fully rejects this resolution. Zimbabwe shares the views of Russia that the stoppage of food aid in Zimbabwe will only prove to cause unecessary destress to many of the great nations population. Zimbabwe would like to remind the panel that it fully supports the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and has full confidence in the supreme leader Kim Jong-un.

Re: Resolution 2012/04 - Concerning the Situation in North KoreaJapan would like to remind the representative for Zimbabwe that the Resolution is not endorsing said stopping of food aid, but instead noting that it exists.(Original post by Foghorn Leghorn)

Re: Resolution 2012/04 - Concerning the Situation in North KoreaAs said to Zimbabwe, this resolution does not support the stopping of food aid. Instead, it simply notes that it has stopped. Japan hopes that Russia's view on the Resolution was not dictated by this one factor which bears no relevance to the legitimacy of the resolution itself, and hopes that it shall not direct such complaints against the resolution.(Original post by Stricof)

Lithuania fully supports this resolution and urges DPRK's new leader Kim Jong-un to take heed of the views expressed by UN memebers. Lithuania believes that DPRK forces are causing uncessesary suffering and this must come to a halt immediately. Lithuania also condemns Russia's repeated unwillingness to recognise the dire situation in DPRK, and condemns Russia's rhetoric it constantly expresses in support of nations with woful human rights records. Lithuania believes Russia must stop acting in an archaic Soviet manner and recognise that Russia too has a role to play in reforming belligerent and oppressive regimes.

Re: Resolution 2012/04 - Concerning the Situation in North KoreaZimbabwe would like to express it's appologies for the confusion, however still rejects any resolution and expresses it's full support of the Workers' Party of Korea and the supreme leader Kim Jong-un.(Original post by DebatingGreg)

Re: Resolution 2012/04 - Concerning the Situation in North KoreaSwitzerland fully echoes Lithuania's statement and supports this motion, however, we our concerned of course that food aid has stopped because of this situation. We hope that the DPRK will cease their activities for the good of the international community and for their own people.(Original post by Foghorn Leghorn)

Poland fully supports this resolution and condemns North Korea for putting its military prestige above the well-being of its people. People are starving to death in North Korea and yet the country still refuses to stop its nuclear weapons programme and engage with the international community in order to receive international aid. Poland views this as simply disgraceful. Poland is also disappointed at Russia's continual support of countries such as North Korea and Syria which are denying their people basic human rights and hopes Russia reviews its support of these nations.

Cyprus will offer its support out of preservation of links with Japan and South Korea. However, it notes the importance of diplomacy and advises caution in interfering with other countries affairs, despite being of the opinion that said satellite launch is not in international interest.
