Calling all MMU Students!

My Problem:

Well basically iv applied at MMU to study Accounting and Finance and iv got the offer. I recently went to Manchester with a few mates (not on an open day or anything, just on a day out) and though it was pretty amazing so i might put it down as my firm choice. So all i have to do now is sort out my accomodation. My 3 choices are probably going to be Mill Point, Oxford Court and Briarfields Hall. Now the only problem is that il be studying at the MMU Business School and if i chose Mill Point as my accomodation, then it means il only be 5 minutes away from where il be studying. Now i read in a thread somewhere from someone already attending MMU and they said that if you were to study at MMU Business School it wouldnt be a good idea to stay at Mill Point because all you'll be doing is going to your lectures and back again. i wont be able to socialise as much as i would if i stayed at the other 2 (Oxford Court, Briafields Hall). I just wanted to know if this was true from all those allready attending MMU. I mean is it that much harder to socialise? i thought about it and well i guess theres good points and bad points. Good points are:

* It looks good
* Its ensuite
* Its only 5 mins away from where il be studying so wont get late to any lectures.
But the bad point is basically the same as the good point which is that it is too close to where il be studying thus making it harder to sociallise with others who are doing something different.

My other 2 choices are oxford court and briarfields hall. i wouldnt mind staying their but the only problem is i dont know how far that is to the mmu business school and how easy it is to catch the bus their and how often they come and when do they start!! e.g. if i have a lecture early in the morning, will i be able to catch the bus quickly from the all saints campus to the mmu business school? is it expensive?
im only choosing the all saints campus as theres alot of students there due to the number of accomodation halls situated there so more chance of sociallising.

so what dyo all think of it all? any advice? thanks again for helping me out. really appreciate it.

Now one of the members i spoke to told me the following: (Im not going to put their username down basically because i dont have their permission and i dont see why i have to).

hey,
its about a 10-15 minute walk or a 5ish minute bus ride from cambridge to business school, (most people who do that bring their bikes) the bus will be £2 for a weekly pass, i cant see how living at mill point would be very social you will be away from the densly populated student area of all saints too, also i dont know any non-business school people who live there, if your at all saints you will be mixed up with all sorts of different people, and prob make more friends as a result as u wont all know the same people.

hey,i noticed u all seem to be getting excited about mill point- although they are new and probably really nice, they are opposite the business school but thats it, they are away from all the other uni halls union etc as u already know the business school is about 10 mins walk from all saints and the main student life.

and the other member i spoke to said:

Right, well you're not more likely to socialise more whether you live in Mill Point or near the All Saints campus. There are going to be people at Aytoun and All Saints in all 3 of the halls, so I wouldn't worry about the socialising aspect of it all; everyone is so friendly in halls irespective of what you are studying, or what campus you are on. Even if you did live on All Saints, you probably wont have chance to meet people from other halls, as people tend to socialise within their own halls.

All 3 halls you've mentioned are nice, Mill Point being the best as it is newest, however it is quite expensive. 2 of my housemates lived there, and thought it was great, apart from the lines of prostitutes that line up outside after about 6oclock.

From the All Saints campus, there aren't any direst buses that go to the Aytoun campus, you'd have to get one from Picadilly and walk, which is a little pointless. Do what other students do, walk! Its not far, and saves having to spend money on buses.

Manchester is generally great, but if you've been to visit then you obviously have a feel for the place and want to study here.

i currently live in mill point and study in th business school it is good and very nice, i have chosent to stay there in my 2nd year 2. you do socialise with people because you gradually get to meet them howevery as it is fairly high security if they lived in a diffrent block to you they would need to come and let you in as the intercom system dont work as ive discovered lol. its about 15 to 20 mins away from most studenty things its good for the printworks and deansgate locks for student nights out though. however it can be fairly noisy and you can here the person in the room next to you.

hope this helps
