My first and second are woolton hall and owens park. Im like you, i cba to cook lol! I think I may aswell put Hulme as my third, I've heard better things about it than Ashburne

I'm going for these 3 as well, but I don't know the order I should put them in. Like of course I want to go out and have a great social life as well, but don't know what the balance is like at all 3 of them, and the general atmosphere at each of them. What do you think?

Hiya, so I've just made my 3 choices for where I want to stay at manchester. So basically, I wanted a single room at a catered hall with a great social life! Because of that, I went for

1. Owens Park
2. Hulme Hall
3. Woolton Hall

Do you think I've made the right choices, what it's like living in all 3 of them? Or are there any better halls to choose from?

Im going owens, woolton and then ashburne in that order! Go to Owens park!

Don't know if I'll get any work done though :P I mean it'll be SO much fun true, but it's the balance which I'm worried about. I mean what have you heard about Owens and Woolton? Debating about these as to where they should be in my top 2, with Hulme Hall in 3rd definetly.

I was worried about that too especially as sometimes i struggle to work with loads of noise but i did extensive research on here and basically, Origami Bullets said that its loud in freshers week and maybe late at night before people go out but its really not as bad as everyone says. So i figured i will have a good social life and i will be able to work. In my opinion, its only for one year that you have to deal with it and most courses dont put your first year towards your actual degree! Worst comes to worst, i'll just hibernate in the library all the time to do work :P

it's hard to tell who's applied because I don't have acces to all the info, but I imagine there's quite a few since it's been open since before Christmas.

You apply here: https://secure.stars.manchester.ac.uk/accommodation/apply/StartPage.aspx

Thank you so much with your help! I am applying now. I'm putting Sheavyn house as my first choice and Richmond park as my second but I'm unsure of what to put for my third because I'm unlikely to get Sheavyn sadly and as much as I wouldn't mind Oak house I think as it isn't high demand I will most likely put there disregarding Sheavyn... Would you recommend any self catered Fallowfield halls for my third choice?

I'd say Oak House is a good choice! It is cheap and has a good social scene too. I can't say whether it will put you in a disadvantage as such for sheavyn. When you apply, they usually give an additional question of what is the most important factor for you in terms of accommodation, so maybe put down ensuite? The best you can do is just give it a shot! Honestly, wherever you end up, you'll be fine. I've had an ensuite at home for the past 8 years of my life, and when I gave it up at uni it was totally fine!

IDK if you ask me the social scene of a hall is not that important...if u're a nerd who doesn't like hanging out or act like a douche bag nothing is gonna help you...I think that the university experience is what you make of it regardless of the place where u stay at...So set up a list of your personal preferences. You never know what people are going to be your flatmates so the place where you least expect to live at may be your dream experience

Yeah no I agree totally! I just wanted to add it in as a bonus. Everyone told me the hall I was going to live in would be horrible, but I had the best freshers experience ever. So I definitely am for the whole 'it's what you make of it' thing.
Oak house just seems a good choice if you want to be in fallowfield and self catered, it's pretty much your only option after the ensuites.

Owen's Park is more of a 'party halls' than Sheavyn / Richmond, but it's catered.

ok thanks for the advice
Can anyone recommend good accommodation for nursing students? I've had a look through this thread and on the accommodation website but there are soo many! Here are my criteria:
- self catered
- near to campus (I'm not sure which campus nursing is based at though :s-smilie:)
- quiet block (I have already lived in halls for three years at another university and will need sleep during placement times) but not eerily quiet lol I still want to socialise
- Would like en-suite but this would probably be too expensive without the accommodation grant thing (not sure if I'm eligible with it being my second degree and NHS funded course) soo at least a sink in the room would be good ^_^

I'd reccommend whitworth park, not ensuite but you can get a basin!
Has anyone heard of CRM student accomodation, i've just been looking at it and it looks really nice but I think this must be private?

It is private, and it won't be anywhere near as nice as the website makes it out to be.
