Good Animation BA courses in UK?

Hi im currently doing art foundation in london and suddenly realised i want to do animation/games design for BA pretty much for sure so have been looking at unis all over the UK.

Courses that look good so far are UCA Farnham, De Montfert, Bournemouth (i know is generally 'top') also LCC but i was wondering if anyone has got any other ideas or personal experiences/reviews of these or other good courses?

I'm planning open days now and don't want to miss out on a good uni

(also I prefer 'old' techniques of physically making the animation/stop motion and photographing each movement as opposed to computer focused creation)

Sorry its so long and thanks!

Hi

There's a very good thread on the subject of animation where you might get more replies if you ask there :

If you're interested in animation / games design (games design is not the same as games art by the way in case you didn't know), and you think you want to work in those areas, I would concentrate on learning 3D animation on a computer. Stop motion is a fabulous art form, but outside of Aardman, there are very few companies who still do this type of work. If you want to be a game designer you definitely won't need this skill. A game animator would be required to show 3D animation in a reel; claymation (unless it's of Aardman quality) would not be seen as a major recruitment skill, whereas the ability to animate in Maya or 3DSMax would. If you are serious about studying stop motion animation, you should look at UWE in Bristol, they have close links with Aardman.

If you're interested in 3D digital animation, you should have a look at Hertfordshire as well  Check the links in my signature.
Ok thanks  Yeah will check on there and thanks for advice, I'm going to look at open days too and try to work out which one to do

Hello! My name is Eliel and I am UCA representative and also a current student there. I have been doing photography for 2 years now.

I read you were asking about courses in Animation and I though you would be interested in one our degrees based in the Farnham campus. I don't know if you have heard of UCA before. The University for the Creative Arts is one of the leading providers of specialist art and design education in Europe. We are a diverse community of about 7,000 students from more than 70 countries and are based around five campuses in Surrey and Kent.

The BA (Hons) in Animation has an amazing reputation for producing Oscar winning Animators and developing you to your full potential. If you would like to read a bit more about the course please visit the following link: http://www.ucreative.ac.uk/ba-animation/overview

There is also a website to see some of the graduates work and read some more information about the course: http://www.farnhamanimation.com/

As I said before, I am a current student at UCA and have been for almost 2 years now so if you have any questions rewarding student life or anything else please don't hesitate to ask.

Hope you find this useful.

E.
